Death on Black Friday

Nothing new. A deacade ago I worked at a Wal-Mart, when we had fights over trying to get the last of a good item. It's more human nature than Wal-Mart's fault.

Of course, my favorite Wal-Mart true story (yes it's true) while I worked there was someone successfully stealing the electronic department's security cameras. :D

Jesus.

I know the economy sucks, I know people are broke, but this is ridiculous.

Very sad.

:(

We aren't going anywhere today. It's rainy and snowy and cold and dark outside. The sales will still be there tomorrow - and also next week. Stores have a great deal of backstock to get rid of.

We're going out, but just so the kids can see Santa at a local free thing at the tiny hardware store on the corner. I won't go anywhere near major shopping or malls today. No wayyy.

From news article;

"It’s hard to believe something as cute as a Cabbage Patch Kid could incite a riot.

But on one Sunday morning in November 1983, more than 2,000 people punched, kicked and fought to get their hands on one of the round-faced, yarn-haired dolls, the year’s most-coveted Christmas present, at Zayre’s Department Store in Wilkes-Barre."

I was just going to start a thread asking who was doing their shopping today. I will avoid it on this day at all costs. I'd rather pay a few bucks more. I always feel like I'm missing something really good though.

Just when you thought humanity had become civilized . . . .

We used to fight over territory and food. Now we fight over Tickle Me Elmo and the Wii.

Guess we need to fight over something . . . .

How about sex?

I worked for Sears for close to 20 years... Thats why you can't pay me enough money to go near any kind of a retail store today.

Yep. I was a manager for Sears in Wisconsin and New Mexico. It.

Sucked.

Ass.

Never again.

I do all my Christmas shopping over the 'Net. It's safer.

Unfortunately I have to go down to a major mall today where the only Apple store in SoCal is so that I can get a personal laptop and have all my questions answered personally. I'm so not looking forward to this. And that mall is so up-scale that I doubt that more 1-2% of its patrons are affected by the recession. Damn, damn, damn!

I thought the homeless set up a tent city at Best Buy, but it was early shoppers. I said forget and went home. I showed up eight hours later and still bought the same item I wanted, for the same price.
Hell, I only went to there because I had a gift card and had to pay ten dollars out of pocket. I'm staying in for the rest of the day.

I'm not buying anything, but not out of protest (I understand there is a Buy Nothing Day) that occurs along with Black Friday) but because I have buy all that stuff I'm going to fix the bathroom ceiling with tomorrow.

Sheesh, even my tiny little local hardware store was packed with kids waiting to see Santa! (And I thought I was avoiding the crowds at the mall! )

And I couldn't convince them we should leave and come back... oh no. An hour standing in line. *sigh*

Well, we've got pictures, even if it did feel like my uterus was gonna fall out after that wait!

Sadly, not that surprising. I worked at TRU back in college, and we had armed security for the 2-3 weeks prior to Christmas. I remember our morning meeting on Christmas Eve, where we were told the bathrooms had to be checked every hour because, at another location, a bunch of armed men had hidden in there until after closing (when security leaves) to come out and hold up the place.

People still have money to buy shit with after these last two months?

Then what's the fuss about a recession all about?

I'll wait for you at Summit Mall...

xo

Precisely the reason I WON'T go shopping on Black Friday. Ever. It makes me sick how people are so anxious for certain items NOW that they behave like a stampeding herd of cattle. I hate it, I hate it, I hate it.
