Sorry - this isn’t another dead pool thread. Instead, it’s based off the book I am currently reading, “They Both Die In the End.”

Basically, on the day you are going to die, you get a phone call at about 12:00 am informing you your day has come. There is nothing you can do to change this and Death Cast doesn’t have any details as to how or exactly when it will happen other than just in the next 24 hours. The point is to give you a heads up so you can “live your life to the fullest.”

It made me think, would you want the notice or prefer to just go about your day/life? If you want to know, what would you do so differently?

Made me wonder what would make me read a downer book like that. I can't think of any reason why I would.

but just an fyi. *spoiler alert*

everybody dies at the end

I feel that way about romance and erotic novels, honestly. This has some humor at least. I read A Little Life and THAT was really depressing. Most of my reading is for a book club or thriller/mystery/horror.

But I wouldn’t want to know.

Wouldn't want to know, but if it's inevitable, I'd want more than 24 hours.

Also...damn Pants.

I'd want to know. You are never really as free as you are when you have nothing to lose, and 24 hours is pretty much nothing. I'd have time to say goodbye to my family correctly, maybe make some videos and letters for the special days in my son's future, make sure they know all the final details, the bill details, insurance etc. I could spend a few hours doing something and someone crazy and fun, that I wouldn't normally do due to future repercussions. Then I would attempt to rob a bank or armored car or something, see if I manage to make out and attempt to launder some of the money maybe via gold coins, jewelry, guns etc, as many local things that are untraceable or easy and legal to move on an openly traded market as I could, in order to make sure my family is in an even better financial situation. Either I fail, and lose maybe the last few hours, or I succeed, make it back home, and those I care about are better off.

Basically, if I knew there was no tomorrow for me, but there would be for everyone else, I'd try to go out with a bang, take risks I wouldn't when I believe I have a tomorrow, while still attempting to make their tomorrow better.

I'd still want to know if I was for certain going to die sometime in 2020. I wouldn't take the level of risk knowing I have only hours, but I would spend a great deal of time trying to sure up my life. Hell, I'd be that woman trying to find her husband's future wife, primarily so I my kid has a mom. Doing everything I could to make it as easy for them as possible.

There is no such thing as 12:00 A.M. Nor 12:00 P.M. It's either noon or midnight, or possibly 12 noon or 12 midnight.

Fine. Midnight. Except yours. Yours comes at 12:01 a.m.

You may think I'm being a pendant, but a guy got out of a parking ticket because of this. He challenged the sign which read no parking between some time and 12 PM. Since there is no such thing as 12 PM, the judge dismissed the ticket and the city had to change all their no parking signs.

It's good to be precise. I am always fighting the battle of good v. well.

Seriously, so what? It's a brief synopsis of a story. Everyone knows what is meant by 12am/pm. Some guy getting off on a technicality doesn't change that.

True. I think once your number is called, no technicality will get you out of it. Not even a blue Will Smith popping out of a magical lamp. You might actually get sent straight to hell for that one.

Is that exactly 24 hours?

How can I live life to the fullest if it could only be 30 minutes. A quick toss?

I should have clarified and good catch. You are not guaranteed 24 hours. You were just notified it is your last day and that sometime within the next 24 hours you will die. So yes, you could easily get the call and die 30 minutes later in a freak storm or you could die 23 hours later in a car crash or from a brain aneurysm.

As to your quotes about is this how you want Jesus to find you, doesn’t that just to reinforce the belief that you should live your life at all times in a way in which you would like it Jesus to find you?

That brings up a whole different conversation though, and another one I find intriguing. When I joined the Lutheran Church, I had to attend an eight week course. The discussion came up about how you get into heaven. What if you are a good person who has been kind and generous and volunteering in your community but do not attend church? What if you attend a church religiously but don’t actually act as instructed in the Bible? These are probably discussed in the thread about how to get to heaven, but I don’t dip my toe in that thread as I have found not everyone can discuss religion in a civil manner. Plus, if it’s anything like most of the threads here now, politics derailed most meaningful conversations anyway. :(
