Very well stated. A community where people are not free to be themselves and explore their own path without being disrespected, will not attract (and as in your case, will even repel) the fun, creative, playful types.
If people simply adhered to "Do unto others..." disrespect would quickly be on the decline.
Hopefully your break will be a short one.
