Dear Anonymous

...I do admit to wondering what tires people. I think about Senna a lot, and 1201. And WSO, and DuLaC, and Rusty Grail and Syndra Lee. So many wonderful poets. And I miss that friggin' adorable monkey that used to hang around. He is so talented, this place lost a huge talent when he "left" or whatever he did.

I didn't read SafeBet's poem and since you said it just merited a 3, I won't even bother, though I'm sure it's an okay poem.
I tell you who I think has been kicking ass lately is Sappho's Sister. That gal can write up a storm and I look with anticipation everyday at the new poems list, hoping she has something up.

have a greeeeat day. I am going to the river.

:)

1201 submitted a poem the other day, he hasn't gone anywhere. I'm more into 1201 than you, in a contest of who's more into 1201 I think I'd win. I don't know that Wildsweetone has gone that far either. Senna posted the other day, a nice little hate note for my all-time favorite poetess. I think I'm going to make an alt and only be nice to people, not tell them anything constructive, not engage them in any meaningful way.

A three means "Keep Writing this is okay" the poem wasn't great or maybe even good. A three shouldn't mean someone goes and tells me to die and puts 1's and 2's on my poems. Why are there other numbers besides for four and five if people are gonna get bent out of shape for a two or three? And it really doesn't matter because most people won't get ten votes on a single poem. SapphosSister is nice, but I wish Corrina Parr and CrystalGem stuck around cuz I liked them better. But James couldn't handle the cloth being lifted, maybe he needs supposed anonymity or pseudonymity to write.

The only people here I've ever gone out of my way to abuse are SJ and Darkmaas, because they've said ridiculous things to me. I don't know that I've ever said anything bad to you. I've told you which poems of yours I like. You still think I told you to get over your injury, which I never said or implied. A few people here can say whatever they want to me because they write fantastic poems every time they write. Reading how you feel makes me feel bad; that someone would rather not be present because their present is miserable. Still, I'd rather you read my poems instead of my message board posts.

I will admit I don't know much about computers, but if and when Manu invents a logarithm, or whatever you call it, that can reason and determine human thought and intent, he will be a very wealthy man.

In case you don't know what I mean, lord knows I don't want you to take insult, but so far, computers can not reason on their own. They can analyze data and make certain determinations based on trends, but they have no emotions and cannot determine if a one vote was made with malice or was just voted that way because the person did not like the story or poem.

Good luck with yer troll fishing

:rose:

Ummm, thanks for that. No insult taken because I'm sure that wasn't meant as condescendingly as it came across.

What I was referring to, hon, was the sweep software that he already has in place and is constantly improving. It does seem to use trend analysis (though nobody but Manu knows for sure what the criteria is that it uses) and it IS doing a better and better job of eliminating "trollish" votes. It's not nearly as obvious here (do to the limited number of votes), but I've had vote count on some of my stories fluxuate by several hundred votes at a time, so something is driving his sweeps on a statistical basis.

Oh, and have a nice day. :)

P.S. bflagsst: Just so you know, I agree with the "3" score that Epmd607 said he gave me the other day. A great poem "it ain't." It was just a fun little piece that I wrote for my kids and posted because I liked it.

Just wanted to post a little thank you note for the "0" bombs.

The reason I want to thank you is for giving Manu more test samples on the software he is working on to block the ISPs of trolls like you that post low scores just for the sake of being an asshole. Just in case you aren't familiar with Manu he is the Head Chief Muckity-Muck Computer Guru for Lit. I'm sure that your score and comments will please him to no end because they stand out so well.

For example two of the poems that I still have in the Top List, both of which you commented on (obviously you missed the third  ) have other comments like this:

Now ya see, Anon old buddy, not only did you make it WAY easy for Manu to nuke your trollish little ass, but you made it uber easy for me to ignore your comments. You see how the other people signed their names? These are ALL people whose poetry I respect and to whose comments I give credence. Yours are just bird shit laying on the bottom of the cage.... you know, kind of annoying and needs cleaning out every once in a while... but not worth paying attention to for more than the minute or two it took to type this.

Oh.... and have a nice day while you are still able to sign on to the site. :)

Well, this is no offence to you Safe_Bet because you write lovely poetry, some of which I have enjoyed. However, I would hardly call 1 in 6 votes on two different poems as coming from a troll. It has always been, in my experience at Lit, that a Troll is a single entity who, for whatever reason, is bent on blatantly and consistently knocking down a single author or poet's score across a body of said author or poet's work. I just don't see 'troll' in your examples. Are you saying that it's okay for anyone to vote a 5 on your poems, but not a 0?

I'm sure that you are not saying that.

I have never voted a 0 on any artistic work in my life, and mainly because I feel that even the worst effort deserves something, but let's think about it for a moment. If I, if you, if any of us were to ever leave a 0 on a work of art, what comments would we leave with that 0? Would we pick apart the work, line by line, and thereby shaming that author or poet into more hurt, humiliation and anger, or would we simply leave a 0 with no remark, or a 0 with a statement of our sentiment like, "This is erotic poetry? Apparently erotic means different things to different people."

I would hope that even anonymously, I'd leave the latter remark to let you know that I was not personally in tune or turned-on or happy with that poem. So what. I have one opinion and is it so bad that 1 out of 6 people don't appreciate your work? No, because 5 people do.

Does it push your score down? As far as I have heard, many zeros are swept, and so are as many fives, so scores even out.

In the end, Anonymous has been more good to me than not, so, I praise Anonymous because he/she make the bulk of Lit readers. As for Trolls? Kill 'em all!

I can see why Safe Bet might suspect a troll - both came on the same day. But a spot check of your other poems doesn't show any others hit then (I didn't check them all)

One never really knows what tires another, true? I get tired of this place and leave for months only to pop in and look for good new, newer poets. IF I had it my way, I would be so tired I would not have even the slightest desire to see what's brewing, as it is, I'm fucking stuck. The only upside to being stuck is the morphine and I lament the fact that quaaludes are no longer available for the times when hubby is here bitching at me. I gotta surprise for him if he keeps up his asshole behavior....

The "lite bulb" thing was a joke. I didn't even check to see if that alt was being used when I posted that, with my luck, I pissed someone off with that comment.

I find it very interesting and somewhat admirable that you admit to voting threes. I remember when.... never mind. You just keep on reading and voting. I like your honest, non ass-kissing comments. You know, some might compare thee to a Senna Jawa, though lacking that hug-able quality that only he possesses.

I know - I'm guilty of not commenting and voting sometimes. I usually only vote if I also comment. If you have just vote, w/o comment, you'll never get a response from me.
RIGHT ON!

votes sometimes are nice, seriously I like the 75's, if I get a useable comment, better than 100 with no comment.
Ignore the zero's, what's it worth. So you don't make it the top list, I never did.

Hey, didn't you give me a 75? I know Maria has...:rose:

If I didn't like your poem I wouldn't have commented or voted. Fours and Fives are really the only votes I see the regulars giving, so as to not offend. I think that's the common theme, don't give anyone a three or two unless you want them to do the same to you. I've only received 1,2,3's from people I've openly argued with. This thread is old, 1201, you don't know all the matches and arm wrestling competitions Jean and me have had over who's more into you. Ha, this can only get creepier.

How do you know who has given you what if they don't comment? not that I give pigs ass either way

either way, the comments from both of you are worth it.

I've given a few 3's. I always will comment (sometimes not saying much and at others more my relfections) as well as put a number. But don;t worry too much about what I get, especially if there are some constructive comments.

Turn off the voting but leave the comment feature on. You'd be amazed at how freeing it is to leave comment (not that I've been doing that) based on your opinion rather than worrying what the voting will do to the "status" of your own work or that of others. I post here so that I can let people read and comment if they'd like, not to gain fame or glory and I feel that if we all did the same, then our stuff will be better for it and when I comment (not that I've been doing that ;) ) I hope I leave something constructive in my wake.

<snip> eta: double post ... but I like this synopsis better :)
It's even better to turn voting off and leave comments that reflect your honest opinion without worrying over status. Why trouble yourself about votes when you can wait for the really helpful feedback and respond in kind?

These two at least address the poem as separate from you, and Eve's point is a very good one. As a writer you should look for the specifics as to why it is either good or bad. Because of the subject matter, I realize it may be difficult for people to comment, but the authour leaves the text.
