I can't seem to up-load my AV.

The dot on "do no use avatar" option could not removed.

The reset is not working too.

What's up?

Could be that the "flag" in the system for the minimum posts (100) to allow an AV has not been switched on yet. If it's still a problem a few hours from now, then you might check w/ Laurel (send her a PM).
Oh, OK.

I was trying to change my AV last night and tried a couple I've used before but kept getting the message they were too big. Bummer. Anyone else have this problem?

You are not the first man to point out the workings of my subconscious; it's always trying to humiliate me. Sheesh. P.

The filesize limits for avatars has been reduced from 20480 bytes (20KB) to 15 KB.

All you need to do is resave them with the JPeg Compression (listed as JPeg Quality in some programs) adjusted to make the file size smaller.

Harold, thank you. My jpeg AVs were always too big so I started saving them as gifs. Can I compress gifs similarly? P.

No, P. You need to use jpegs. PM them to me (genuine offer).

Yes and no --it depends on which of three or four GIF definitions they're saved in. The later GIF definitions are more compressed than the original definition, but each version has a set compression method and ratio.

JPeg also has a couple of different versions of the definition, but all of them support variable quality/compression levels. The trade-off is that the more a JPeG is compressed, the more distortion when it's un-compressed.

If you aren't already using it, IrfanView makes changing the JPeG compression factor simple and has a batch mode that can convert all of your GIF Avatars into JPeg Avatars that will meet the new file size requirement with one operation.
