Hi gang, quick question and I couldn't think of anywhere else to post it...

I have a friend who's pregnant. She wants to have her baby and is tired of waiting (she's a couple days past the due date). I know the spiel about letting nature run it's course, but...are there any ways to induce labor? I've heard that sex can do it, but I think she's looking for other alternatives (her bf doesn't want to do anything overly sexual until after the baby is born).

So...know any fancy methods of inducing labor?

walking helps

or have her ask her OB to "strip" her membranes, that usually brings on labor within 12-24 hours.

well a really hot curry is one that I was told.

There was a tea too..rosehip? I'm not sure on that one though..

I am sure if you looked up "induce labour" in a search engine some of these would come up *L*

Clean the house, push the sweeper around, move stuff into the baby's room! We moved in to a new house. After an entire day of packing, unpacking, etc. I went in to labor that nite. 3 weeks early!

If her bf isn't willing to help (sounds like he's a real winner  ), she could try masturbating. It's not the sex itself that induces labor, but the contractions of the uterus during an orgasm.

There are all sorts of herbal remedies too, but tell her to be careful with those. Walking and orgasm are probably the safest routes.

i was induced at the hospital but i can't remember what it was they used, i know one of the drugs was pitosin but not too sure about the other one. tell her to try walking around the stores or something. that helps sometimes.

I ate pizza the night before my daughter was born. Hub and I both thought it was indigestion. My mom suggested a ride in the car on a bumpy road. I heard once a woman about to deliver took a ride on a rollercoaster. She delivered while she was still at the amusement park.

I believe it is Rosehip, gotta google that though to make sure. Appearently it was a very popular herbal remedy for a long time.

Amazing! Most men would DIE to make love to their wives/gf during pregnancy if she wold let them!

Nipple play.

I had a friend whose doctor recommended nipple stimulation as a way to induce labor. Apparently, when the nipples are stimulated, it releases a hormone that causes contractions.

See the following article:

If that's still overly sexual in her boyfriend's mind....shoot, I'd hate to think what "tame" looks like ;)

Cheers,

well if it's her first pregnancy I would really suggest that she wait until spontaneous labor starts or her docs feel it's time for an induction. I know as the mother of three that at the end of your pregnancy you just want for it to be over and done with, but with the first it's best to let it happen on its own.

if she's already been through this before, or is hell bound to get it over and done with the best thing she can do is walk. every single one of my docs advised this and while it may not have brought the baby that very night it did soothe them which made me more comfortable and helped bring them further down into the pelvis.

nipple stimulation does work, but it has to be quite strong and can bring on very painful contractions. Sex can work too, but in late pregnancy can be quite a daunting and uncomfortable task for both partners.

I know it's tough those last few days to wait, but just remind her that her little one is simply waiting until it has achieved perfection before making it's debut.:rose:

Thanks everyone for the feedback (and redelicious for the link)! It's greatly appreciated.

I think it's sweet. He probably doesn't want her to exert herself.

I mean, I'm guessing they've had sex before while she was pregnant (i don't think any guy could go nine months without sex) but doing it while she's 9 months+ is a little much.
