Entertainment Weekly had an update on that. It seems zoologists around the world were fascinated that a chimpanzee would live to see 80 years of age in captivity, when the previous record was something like 50 years.

As it turned out, a necropsy revealed that "Cheeta" was only around 50 years old, and the folks that had been pimpin' the poor ape out for the past 25 years were running a decades-long scam. The real "Cheeta" died sometime in the late 1950s, it seems.
