In the late 60's I lived in DC. It was all about who you knew, who you screwed, and who you blew. If you were into name dropping, it was paradise.

From the mid 70's to the mid 90's I did business there. Not only had nothing changed, it was worse. Incestuous is the only word that comes to mind. From the lowest janitor to the highest political appointee, they were all out for themselves.

And you think they have your best interests in mind?

One of the big problems with DC is the people in power can change every 4-6 yrs, people move in and out of DC with that power so job security is harder than most places.

It was always about who you knew and what you might be willing to do. If you connected to people on embassy row and in congress, it could be a big party, you knew where to go and where not to go.
You saw the congressmen and their nieces, knew what embassies to stay away from. Everyone knew about interns...

Some politicians have their constituents' best interest at heart but not most. It's a moneyed game, much of the power is with the lobbys. There is a higher acceptable level of ruthlessness. There used to be a lot more protocol and manners than there is now, and I think that might effect jobs down to the janitor level. Politicians would bring in their own admin and political advisor people but not household staff, now everything seems to patronage.

The politicians come and go, but the culture remains.

As do the the members of the now most powerful fourth branch of government, the bureaucracy. No politician even gives lip service to rooting out those entrenched power bases.

The people in power never change. Remember the arrogance of the IRS under questioning?

More recently, the woman in charge of knowing the number of refugees entering the country and the number of visa holders impudently showing up to testimony armed only with a speech about what she wanted to talk about and no facts?

Look at the antics of the EPA, the BLM, any of the big alphabets! When they do something wrong, they are either promoted or quietly just moved to a new desk.

Look at the tenure of our most powerful politicians! They never serve a term or two and go home; they stay there and grow rich on a public servant's salary. Hell, almost every county ringing DC is in the top dozen of richest counties in the nation...

There are 2 forms of real power that matter. One is all about jobs and contracts, if you dispense one or both you got power. The other is 'taking care of business,' getting the results people want.

I hate that place. It is full of sleazeballs.

It is a cesspool.

It represents everything that is wrong with this country.

Federal government employees earn more and receive better benefits than their private industry counterparts. They have a very powerful union, have no accountability, and can't be fired or disciplined. Instead of being terminated they are frequently shipped off to some never-never land and get paid for doing nothing. They drain money from the economy and generate zero wealth.

They are the new ruling class.

And both parties kowtow to them. One things they lead them, the other is in terror of them, and we see, with ample example, of just why that is...

ANd let us not forget the central role in slanting their reporting that our national press plays in this farce.
