I know I've bitched about this before, but I have to reiterate that the category a story is posted in generally determines the number of readers that view the story here on Literotica. The actual quality of the story is secondary.

Death by Fucking is a Sci-Fi humorous, romantic novel. It's pretty good, good enough that it has been nominated for the 2004 Golden Clitorides Award as Best Erotic Sci-Fi Story of the Year.

But on Literotica (which is where it was originally posted) it has gotten almost no readership. I posted a Loving Wives story last month that has received significantly more readership in 3 weeks than any chapter of Death by Fucking has gotten in 11 months, probably because DbF was posted as a Romance.

I think my follow-up to DbF is better than the original, but it is getting almost no readership at all on Literotica. This story is called Tales of the eKids. It has reached the point that I'm thinking of switching the category of each chapter based upon the kind of weird sexual things I can put into it, and restrict the story to Incest, Erotic Couplings, and Loving Wives.

I'm definitely leaving the Romance category. Writing Romance on Literotica is kind of like jerking off while everyone else is getting a gang-bang.

Anyway, for those of you who might want to see what the shouting is about (Besides the Golden Clit nomination, DbF won twice in the Literotica monthly contest, another chapter received an Editor's recommendation, and a chapter of Tales of the eKids was the top-rated Romance in April), here is a link to the complete story on ASSTR:

Death by Fucking - the complete story

Sorry, but sometimes you just have to vent!

LOL!

I guess that's the nature of the beast. I'm sure if the main characters of your story were brother and sister or aunt and nephew, you would be onto a sure fire winner on lit. But winning isn't everything - please don't prostitute your writing!

I know this isn't the answer you would like, and while I agree with your vent wholeheartedly, this is a free site, and I don't think there are many sites that would publish my crap :D

Maybe you should try sites like elloras cave that can publish ebooks or something if you take your writing seriously. I assumed lit was mostly for the unpublished and likely never will be [like me :D]

On the down side, while I haven't read any of your stories yet [and I will, I promise!], the titles dbf and the ekids don't appeal to me as romance titles.

At the end of the day, I would be in awe if I received even a fraction of the nominations and awards your writing seems to get effortlessly! Congrats! :rose:

I second the "category" problem.

Rather than categories, I wish the sotries were posted with codes as some other sites do.

Not only is the problem that different categories get different readership, but if you do not fulfill readers expectations in a category, you get lots of complaints. Wht do you do with a romantic interracial story? An incestual mind control story? A humorous naughty wife story?

All that said, one gets more feedback from literoticia than from other places, so maybe we should not complain too much. <g>
