She had kicked her shoes off and was enjoying the warm waves as it washed over her bare feet and legs. The relaxing sound of the salt water lapping at the rocks lulled her into a false sense of security, one that would soon be broken. The young woman turned at the sound of a twig snapping,

and?

"Is there room for two on this beach" Came the rich baritone voice, startling her from her memories of the more pleasant past.

"Or should I find another moonlit path to follow?"

"Go away" Came her shaky yet somehow firm voice in reply "I saw you die, leave me alone."

The silence hung as the waves continued to wash thru her toes and she watched her toes tracing a circle eight in the sand.

"Stop coming back to me like this, please?" Came her soft, pleading voice as she looked up at his tall image.

"I will when you answer the question, princess" Came the sober reply, his brown eyes meeting her light blue and holding them. "Yes, or No?"

"DAMN YOU!" Came her vehement reply, laced with anger and a small twinge of despair. "You know it's not that simple!"

Her eyes now blazed at him, her cheeks glowing with two round orbs of red.

"I've tried to tell you this all before, now Leave me alone!"

"I only wish I could" Came back the still sober voice, a touch of sadness creeping into his eyes. "You know the rules imposed on me"

For a second his hand lifted towards her, then fell, a greater feeling of regret washing across his eyes.

"Give me the answer, Princess, and I can leave you in peace."

"Bastard" She moaned as she lowered herself to her knees, her head hung as she wrung her hands, oblivious to the water washing over her. She knew if she lied he would leave as promised, taking that lie with him never to be seen again. And if she replied with the truth she would confess to him and herself what she had denied for so long, and still watch him leave.

The only answer was not to answer, night after night, so she could catch a glimpse of him and hear his voice.

"I...I can't....I'm sorry" She sobbed, looking up to his anguished face.

"Princess, please" He choked out, his hands clenching and unclenching as he fought the urge to bend and lift her into his arms. "We both need to end this, my love"

Thier eyes locked and held, all outside sources of intrusion barred from thier time slowing gaze, one that he broke with a sigh.

"Please?"

"Touch my face and I will." Came her resolute counterdemand, her lip trembling as her face regained some of it's former peace.

"One single carress and I'll answer you truthfully"

He dropped to his own knees, thier faces seperated by a scant quarter inch, her sweet breath washing over his face as she fought for control and he moaned his reply.

"This is killing you, Princess, slowly inch by inch. I can see it"

He broke the gaze that they had held since? Eternity? Or just for a few minutes?

"Tell me and both of us can go to where we need to" He moaned in a final attempt. "It can't hurt anymore"

"DAMN YOU!" Came her angered reply, her small hands balling into fists that she lifted to punish him with "I HATE YOU!"

The words were no sooner out of her lips then she sobbed, a sound that mocked description as her face showed the fear at what she had just said.

"No, no" She countered, her voice cracking with fear as he smiled gently at her suddenly pale face. "I didn't mean that."

"Then which is it, Princess?" Came his gentle query, understanding mixed with the growing concern for her in his question.

"You've given me two answers for the same question, which is it?"

A curiousity

Many have said each person has a writing style that gives them away. Well, perhaps a test to that theory?

Each "day" the real author of this story isn't guessed correctly, it will be continued. The day it is the person who identifies the author correctly can decide wether to continue it themselves, or to end it.

But first they need to identify the author, hmmm?

The "keeper of the key", so to speak is one of our own, Trace.

You can "PM" Trace and will receive a reply if you are correct in your assumption, as well as a confirming post to this thread.
