Dawg's Quotation Thread

It seems that nature has concealed at the bottom of our minds, talent and abilities of which we are not aware. the passions alone have the privledge of bringing them to light, and of giving us sometimes views more certain and more perfect than art could possibly produce-~La Rochefoucauld~

I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free.

It's amazing to me what an artist "sees" with their eyes and then creates for the rest of us to see.

After that beautiful expression, then is extremely lame, but it made me laugh my ass off today.

Why do I have to get married? I haven't done anything wrong.

~"Take this kiss upon the brow! And, in parting from you now,
Thus much let me avow--
You are not wrong who deem
That my days have been a dream;
Yet if hope has flown away
In a night, or in a day,
In a vision, or in none,
Is it therefore the less gone?
All that we see or seem
Is but a dream within a dream."~

Look not mournfully into the past, it comes not back again. Wisely improve the present, it is thine. Go forth to meet the shadowy future without fear and with a manly heart.

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

"Sympathy constitutes friendship; but in love there is a sort of antipathy, or opposing passion. Each strives to be the other, and both together make up one whole."
-Samuel Taylor Coleridge

We are not the same persons this year as last; nor are those we love. It is a happy chance if we, changing, continue to love a changed person.
* W. Somerset Maugham

Love looks not with the eyes, but with the mind;
And therefore is winged Cupid painted blind.
* William Shakespeare

Great quote, thanks for sharing it!

The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.
