Dave's Zombie Proof Bunker and Refuge for Unattached Wimmens

Goes over to the sound system and starts playing Molly Hatchet. And Lynyrd Skynyrd. And a little .38 Special and Atlanta Rhythm Section just to be a pain in the ass. Keeps pouring American Honey into a shot glass and drinking it, trying to remember what was so important about this weekend in May before Hell came to Earth.

Dave's arms are warm and heavy around me when I wake. His breath smells of booze, Not surprising considering the amount of ... stuff he's consumed. He's gonna sleep for a while more, so I get up for a shower and some clean clothes.

I havent had an easy few weeks. Most of my time has been taken up by working and repairing the tanks. Had to move the new one out to an abandoned army base for the tools and parts I need. It was slow going, to strip out the transmission, re-weld what needed to be rewelded, clean scurf off the gears, and put the whole thing back together again, but I did it. Which brings me to my current appearance. The hair on one side of my head in singed short, where I got careless with the torch and where the sparks landed. I think it gives me a sort of cute asymmetric look, or at least it will once I cut the singed ends off. The left side of my face is a little red too. Fell asleep on a break from stripping oil from the gearbox. Woke up with a sunburn. I'm getting sloppy. My breath catches in my throat as I wriggle out of my pants. The leg underneath is raw, blistered and very, very red. I don't think its infected yet, but after this I'm gonna go to the infirmary and swallow some antibiotics. Maybe a tetanus booster too. I ripped it open on some hot metal while I was cleaning up a weld. Pain and exhaustion can make anyone sloppy, even me. So once the tank was done enough to function I drove it through the night back here. Here, I know I'm safe, I have guns , water and most off all Dave.

After a painful trip to the infirmary where I dosed up and bandage my leg, I limp back to the bedroom. Dave hasn't moved, his arm still stuck out as if feeling for me in my sleep. I dress in a crop top and panties before sliding back under his arm, and fade into the deep sleep that only security and relief can bring.
 
Fewer bodies make the bunker feel colder than usual. I'm sure it's all in my head, but it doesn't stop me from dragging a crocheted blanket with me wherever I go as I wander aimlessly through the halls and rooms.

Something has to give. I know something has to change, I'm just a little more frustrated every day realizing that it means going out again. Last time was bad, and I can't imagine conditions have gotten better out there while I've been hiding here.

But, I reason, I've still got a couple days to plan. Or talk myself out of going.

I'm going to go find Whip and see how she's healing. That leg looked bad. Worse than mine.
 
Anybody seen Whip? I'm starting to get worried about her. I couldn't find her all day and I looked in her room, in the motor pool, under the tanks, outside...I'm at a loss.

But then, I'm wandering aimlessly. I haven't seen Ella or PL1 either. I suddenly feel so alone in my little paradise here...
 
We're here! Just hiding behind the bar, as usual. Care to join me for a nightcap? I put out some warm milk for Miss Kittybritches over there...I need something with a little more bite. So to speak.

So glad I made it here. Those undead fiends are getting pretty bad out there.

I hear this is the place for rifle training and movies about killer rabbits. Mind if I join your group?

Well, there's lot's of room, and plenty of time for training during the day, but nights are for naked dance parties! Woot-Woot! C'mon in and get naked! We need to check you for bites and stuff.

Of course. Totally understandable. Not like I had much left to wear, what with them grabbing and tearing my clothes off. No bites... yet. Unless someone else plans on doing some nibbling.
