Jim Travvers had just come off a bad break-up with his x girlfriend. They had dated for years, and he surprisingly was taking it well, but unfortunatley this meant he had no date, when his senior honors dinner rolled around. At his small university, there was a ball held for all the honor students at the end of their senior year, and he was now dateless. He had tried everything, called his sister, her friends were busy, called his cousins, none would go with him, called his mother, even... she was on vacation with her new husband. Getting desperate, he staked out the library, the gym anywhere. Still he could not find a date, finally, he put up posters, woman wanted as dinner date for ball, good looks are not necessary, but are a plus. I will pay if needed, but a volonteer would be most appreciated. If interested please call and it gave a phone number, or visit, and gave his off campus apartment's address, and now he waited.

Jim sat at his desk, finishing his honor's thesis, and kept retyping the same sentence, frowning he would retype it, and look at it again. It still seemed to be worded wrong. (I need a break) he thought to himself as he stared at the screen, (maybe someone will call today, I mean the dinner is only in 3 days.) he mused to himself. No, he couldn't be that lucky to get a date now, could he? Was every girl on the entire campus taken, so it seemed to he anyway.

"I thought he had a girlfriend?" Sarah had asked her friend Christa as they glanced at a poster on the wall.
"Yeah but they broke up."
"Really? When did that happen?"
"I dunno, few days ago or something. So are you going to call him?"
"Maybe. Think I should?"
"I wouldn't, but that's only because I already have a date." Christa teased.

Sarah stuck her tongue out at Christa and they parted ways. Taking out her cell, she punched a few numbers, stealing a second glance at the poster and getting the phone number down. She pushed the thought to the back of her mind, for at the moment she had an exam to take.

As the day went on Sarah ended up forgetting all about the poster. She went through her classes one by one, thinking more about calculations than calling Jim. At least that's what she thought his name was. Tapping her pencil against the desk, she stared at the paper. A few numbers that she had come up for the answer looked fairly familiar, and she recognized them as the telephone number.

"Wow... that's really weird."
Sarah muttered to herself, biting down on the end of her pencil out of habit. She had been a firm believer in destiny and signs, and after excusing herself she took out her cell and looked up the number, giving it a ring.

She paced back and forth outside, the phone ringing and ringing and she wondered if anyone would pick up. Finally the other end was received.

"Um hi, I know this is probably random but I saw this poster on the wall and I was wondering if the offer still stood. Is this Jim?" she said quickly, not really giving the other person a chance to talk.

Jim sat thinking about his thesis, still on the damned sentence when his phone rang he picked it up..."Travvers." he answered when suddenly there was a flood of words. A smile came across his face as he listened, "Uh, yeah this is Jim." he said, "And yes, I am still looking for a date, are you really interested?" he asked as he leaned back in his chair sending a silent sigh towards his ceiling, this might be his big break. He might get a date.

"Hi, and um yeah I was wondering if you still needed a date. I'm sorry to have called you so late but I wasn't sure if I should have called or not." Sarah said after calming down just a bit. She suddenly remembered that she was taking a practice exam in her class,

"Oh shit, um can I call you later or you call me? I really have to go and finish a test of mine."
she said and then apologized for cursing and hung up, quickly heading back to her class.

Jim Travvers

Jim agreed, suggesting perhaps she call him when class was done, and perhaps they could arrange to meet for coffee later that afternoon.
He hung up the phone and smiled, this really was going to be his break.

"OK, I'll call you as soon as I'm out of class, but I gotta go." she said and then hung up her phone. She pocketed her cell and booked it back to class, apologized to the professor and then finished her exam. She didn't exactly rush through the test but afterwards she yelled at herself for not taking up all the time she could have used.

"Oh well," she sighed to herself. "Oh!" she remembered the phone call and then patting down her pants she groaned as she didn't remember where her cell phone was.

"Got it." she said happily as she pulled it out of her back pocket and redialed Jim.

Jim answered the phone after the first ring, "Hello?" he said, he had just gotten out of the shower, and stood in a towel on the phone.

"Hi, um this is Sarah. I called you earlier about the date but then I had to go. I'm really sorry for leaving so soon but I was taking a test." she said as he answered his phone.

"Have you found one yet or is the offer still available?" she inquired.

Jim Travvers

"Yeah the offer is still open!" he said enthusiastically.
"Were you still interested in going out for coffee, or dinner or something tonight?" he asked. "If you are, stop by my apartment, and I'll drive us somewhere, just give me 5 mins or so to get some clothes on." he said.

Sarah smiled as he said that the offer still stood. She tucked one of her lips in as he spoke through the phone, and she stared at her feet like a little school girl being told she was cute.

"Yes, dinner would be nice. But I'm afraid I don't know where you live. Would it be possible to pick me up at my house?"
she asked him, checking her watch. "I know the poster has your address listed but I was never really good with directions." she admitted, wondering if that was really a smart thing to say.

Jim smiled at his end of the phone, "Of course I can, just give me your address, I am pretty good with directions." he added. "How long would you need? say I pick you up in an an hour?" he asked looking at his clock which read 5:30, "Or when ever you want me to pick you up that is." he added.
