You've never heard of DDR? Well, you're missin' out!

DDR is "Dance Dance Revolution," a dance music simulator game made by Konami (who is also famous for other music games such as Beatmania, Guitar Freaks, Drummania, etc.). The game, like many others, originated in Japan, and is being played in many countries all over the world including the USA, Hong Kong, Korea, and the UK. This simple, yet addictive game's popularity continues to increase, as more DDR machines are being placed in more and more arcades around the world!

The object is simple: Follow the arrows and step on the corresponding arrow, to the beat of the music. The arrows, as you can see to the right, move upward from the bottom of the screen toward the top row of arrows. Right when the moving arrow aligns with the row at the top, step on it. For example, looking at the picture to the right, the up arrow is almost aligned at the top. As soon as that arrow matches up, then put your foot out and step on the top arrow of the platform.

There are many difficulties of songs, ranging from levels 1 to 9. You can choose from a wide variety of music, including hip-hop, disco, latin, R&B, reggae, and pop. Each song has several difficulties. There is Basic (also known as Standard), which is good for starters. Once you get better, you can play Trick mode, also called Difficult. Then there's Maniac, or Expert, for all of you who become total DDR freaks.

Do you have to be able to dance? No, not at all! Starting out doesn't even require any kind of dancing, it's more just like reading some arrows and stepping on it when it tells you to. Once you're able to do that, you can put some moves into it and have a lot of fun trying to make your 'dance' look good for everyone to see. And one more thing... don't be embarrassed to play! Everybody usually just stands around and watches somebody play, but they themselves are too embarrassed to make a fool of themselves. Don't worry, it'll feel weird the first time, but trust me, you won't stop playing it ^_^.

For those of you who are really afraid of getting on stage but like the game, there are PlayStation releases of the game. There is one US version of DDR available and some mats that have the arrows to step on like the arcade. There are also import versions of DDR that have MANY MANY more songs to dance to.

No matter what you do, just make sure you have fun playing DDR, and don't feel dumb if you make a fool out of yourself. It's all part of the game. Pretty soon, the crowd may be astonished at what kind of steps you can pull off.

DDR!

Luna, I know that we're all talking about Vice City on my games thread...but I'm just thinking you'll get more feedback if you were to post this there:)

prolly ...but i mean its not specifically about DDR now is it? ;)

*ignore the crazy woman* :D

No no no no no no

God I hate that thing.

On one of my old gaming forums a few people got into that game and thats all they talked about for the longest time. Drove me crazy to see a good RTS forum ruined by a stupid dancing game.

We have a similar machine in the game room of my building; however, and I will admit to perving at the occasional female who is using it. :D

i hate that thing too...but i love it...its got some neato music...:p

and yes sometimes i will be a nasty perv and watch..but mostly the nerdy boys play it @ the mall...
