So many dams were built in the thirties, forties. They've been aging, it's pretty much inevitable that we'll see failures.

An elderly friend of mine-- his brother was chief of the engineering corps back in the day. He was proud of his contribution to America, all those dams. But he also knew they needed constant rebuilding, and he was never able to get any administration invested in the upkeep.

As he was dying, he told the reporters that he was glad to go before his successes turned into failed disasters.
