dam breach floods Kherson, 9 villages, threatens further 80, strands russian soldiers

Why would they destroy a dam that just flooded all of their defensive works on the East side of the Dnieper? Just askin', who benefits?

Russia benefits in the long run. Without those assets and territory, they're in a worse position militarily than otherwise. Which could lead to them ending this conflict sooner. Which is good for Russia and her people.

And my comment wasn't limited to only the dams destruction. Russia should pay reparations for what they've done to Ukraine.

I believe the Russians should pay reparations for their war crimes. It doesn't make sense to me that the Russians blew up a dam they built knowing that doing so would destroy all of the minefields and in-depth defenses they erected on the East bank of the Dnieper as well as deny a major water source to the Crimean Peninsula presently held by the Russians. Recall that in 2014 Ukraine blocked a channel carrying water from Nova Kakhovka, triggering a water crisis on the peninsula.

Make no mistake, this was an act of terror and eco-terror that should be punished, but I predict, like the bombing of the Nordstream pipeline, it will never be thoroughly investigated publicly and unless somebody leaks classified information like the leaks that took place a month or so ago that showed the Ukrainians blew up the pipeline, we may never know what really happened to the dam.

Remember Scott Ritter the former American Marine and UN nuclear inspector? He was the one source the left and the major media worshipped for making the discovery and testifying that there were no WMDs in Iraq. He's saying right now that his sources are telling him the Ukrainians bombed that dam as are other independent sources. So I think I'll wait for more information.

As an aside, here's something else to consider about that Nordstream pipeline attack, Joe Biden and Victoria Nuland said it would happen, they wanted it to happen, and were happy it happened.

russian soldiers speaking out about collapse of command and being shelled by their own despite them knowing russian soldiers were still there
"Our boys were in that position... We hadn't retreated yet when Gyurza ordered to shell this area, this square of land. They told him that our soldiers hadn't left the positions. Women will give birth to new ones, he replied. He aired it by radio so as the entire battalion could hear him. Well, the remains of the battalion..." the Russian soldier said.

The man complains that Russian troops have completely lost control over the current situation.

"We want to address people so that they know the truth about our situation. We've held our positions with all forces and by all means. But we've run out of means... There is no support, roughly speaking, no evacuation, no rationality at all. There are no command staff here. We're abandoned. We also lack communication. Just yesterday we were holding our positions without any communication, without anything. With no orders... We spent the whole night under shelling. And we didn't know what else we were supposed to do," the Russian occupiers complained.

"women will give birth to new ones".
that's how much russia values its own soldiers, and how they view the purpose of a woman

I doubt Russia blew up their dam. I also don't believe it was an act of terrorism in any way because, as I said earlier, war is hell.

Despite their losses, Ukraine has been kicking Russia's butt even though they didn't have the men, training, or weapons. Now that new weapons systems and western trained operators for those systems are coming on line Russia is in big trouble, as we saw with the missile defense systems shooting down their hypersonic missiles. Russia would be better off if they used the dam destruction as a basis to come to their senses and withdraw all the way to the peace table.

They won't.

The only real question is whether Putin dies from whatever ails him before he is removed and if that happens before or after Russia topples.

Russia blocking humanitarian relief to affected areas

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2...-accused-of-blocking-flood-evacuation-efforts

Russian forces in control of a Ukrainian town on the occupied southern side of the Dnipro River near Kherson have been accused of preventing evacuation efforts after flooding caused by the Nova Kakhovka dam bursting.

The town of Oleshky appears to be the worst-affected area in territory controlled by Russia. Videos and photographs from the scene have depicted severe flooding and residents stranded on the roofs of their cottages.
