Fucking Jerry Jones. :(

This is why I hate modern sports nowadays. The man practically defined the Dallas Cowboys as surely and with as much class as did Roger Staubach or Tom Landry. He will go down in history as one of, if not the, greatest running backs ever to play the game.

And they're going to cut him. Perhaps they'll try to sign him back - but probably not. More than likely he'll sign with another team (and the rumor has it that he may try a swing with the hated rival Redskins ).

But they could just as easily have kept him in camp and let him play as long as he could. Obviously, he's an effective running back, moreso than anyone else they have on the team now (Troy Hambrick? Don't make me laugh.). There still is such a thing as loyalty. It's just in very, very short demand anymore.

Emmitt, I hope you sign with someone who plays against the Cowboys twice a season and that you run for over a hundred and a couple or three touchdowns every single game.

His wife is BEAUTIFUL.....

At least he didnt marry a Blonde White Women

Emmitt is a class act but not sure he's the greatest back to ever play the game. He's been the most durable and has kept to a high level of competition but Payton, Sayers, Brown, Sanders might be better. Hard to debate this topic though. Emmitt sure is a class act though and has represented the Cowboys well over the years.

It's all about the money. He's expensive and this allows them room to get under the cap and maybe sign someone else.

Yeah he's better than anyone else on the team but he is on the decline. He isn't the back he was and he is very expensive. They might be thinking about a back in the draft, but then who the hell knows with Jerry Jones running the team.

Yeah baby, my two favorite teams are the Packers and whomever plays against the Cowboys. Run up the numbers on them Emmitt. I hope he's able to sign with someone. He is a good guy and deserves to leave the game like he wants. I think releasing him is wrong but I understand why they are doing it.

I'd be willing to bet that he puts up a thousand yard season next season, and one the year after that. He's the kind of guy on whom you can depend to play hard while you actually try to develop another back to replace him when hs finally does stop playing. For two or three years, he's still got legs.

Over 17,000 rushing yards and 153 touchdowns don't count for anything when you're 34 years old in the NFL. BBW's right!

this is not jack anymore. Keep in mind I am not defending the system or Jones, nor do I think anyone on the roster is any better. What you did for me yesterday means nothing in comparison to what can you do for me two years from now.

Now, what I would have done is taken McGahee from Miami, rehabed his ass for two years and then let Emmit ride into the sunset. Then again, I dont have to write those checks.

Busybody, that wasn't his wife. That was Jerry Jones.

Sicko.

I was watching the news conference.....and his wife was there......

Before you call anyone a sickO

get the FACTS right!

Because I respect you, I will not call you ASSHOLE!

Come on now.

Last year he put up 975 yars in only 254 attempts. He was only .4 yards per carry under his career average. And he scored 5 touchdowns. He's not played fewer than 14 games a season. The man is incredibly durable. More importantly, he only lost one fumble all year. He holds on the football, gains good yardage, and doesn't get hurt. What more could you want in a running back?

And I'm not even a Cowboys fan!

hazey, he'd make a nice fit for the Vikings or even Tampa Bay.

a half a yard drop is a lot.

Perhaps, but even so, it's not a wise decision to ditch a thousand yuard rusher who is willing to play for you for less than he'd likely get elsewhere. He'd be a bargain for the "Boys who are going to pay far more for a comparable rusher in the end.

I agree with the McGahee plan. I think he'll make an excellent running back and with Smith, you would have had the ability to rehab him and work on polishing him. As it is now, they're goig to have to put out more money for a back. It didn't make financial sense.

I can see Smith going to the Vikings. He'll play well in that system and for that coach. I'd love to see Stephen Davis end up in Tampa as opposed to Dallas, mostly because I think he'd work very well int he Tampa system and because I like Davis and couldn't possibly root for him while he's wearing the hated Silver Star.

I hope Green Bay picks him up even though Green is a wonderful player and he and Farve have some chemistry I think having Smith along for the long ride would round them out very well and they may also get that Super Bowl ring Farve is striving for before he retires would be a awesome way for them both to retire kick ass yr and then big dance to boot, just my humble opion tossed in the fray :nana:

So long - Bucket Head...

Now he can be free to go out and play a character on the Simpson's.

I mean - he's got the look down pat.

Now - if he could just remember his lines...

Hail to the Redskins!!!!

Why couldn't he restructure his contract so that he could help the Cowboys contend? Steve McNair and Bengi Olsen just did with the Titans..

As great as Smith was, I am willing to bet if you put him behind a team that doesn't have as big an offensive line - like say the Detroit Lions - then he doesn't have that record. Hell, he shouldn't really have it anyway. The only reason he does is because Barry retired.

Life goes on and nostalga doesn't win championships. I'm sure Jones and Parcells would have liked to have had Emmitt remain with the team, but Smith wasn't going to take a back seat and his contract wasn't worth backup role money.. and it became clear this past season that's what the Cowboys wanted Smith to be in order to devlop new talent.

Ever since Jerry Jones took over as owner, it's been the Jerry Jones Show, and nothing more. He ruined the Cowboys, no matter how good they may have been at anytime, or championships won.
