I was asked this at my interview today. I figured I would ask it here. Simple question but for me a complicated answer.

It really depends on who one's family and friends are...

PS Good luck with your job search.

A very complicated answer. At different times of our lives one can be more important that the other.

But at the end of the day. I love my family. Familial ties, even if you are not on speaking terms with your family, run deep.

I would die for my son, I would not die for any of my friends.

I agree.
Both are important but since I don't have & can't have children I say friends.
I consider my husband more of a friend, lover, soul mate than family so.....

It depends. There are four friends that I would drop everything and go to if they needed me. My brothers though... We're not close. They're big boys with their own lives. So in that case- friends. But if it's my husband, parents or grandmother- they're first.

I clicked on family but with some reluctance! With the sheer beauty and delight of some of my friendships, and the angst sometimes around some of my family - the temptation to click the other one!

Another thing that happened for me in making a decision was that I saw my wife as in both categories: I feel her to be my friend, and yet our vows and procreating make us family.

What tipped me was the formation thing. My formation is principally through my familial relationships years back and still. Wow are my adult children 'forging' who I am!

... So, Friend of Pollsters: your interview? how go things?

My friends. I chose them for a reason. I wasn't given a chance to choose my family. I know that sounds harsh. Maybe I'm harsh.

Pass. I truly cannot answer this one. I'm interested in how you answered the interviewer. Hmmmmm....

based solely on the fact that our childhoods have such strong influence over who we become, I choose family.

Just realized I put daily thread instead of poll. Oh well.

In the interview I said being a father to a little boy everyone I look at him I know family will always be first. Then I said until he turns 16 and pisses me off.

Then he'll turn 21 and he'll be your bestest pal ever. :)

I picked family only because most important to me is my daughter. She is my pride and joy. But my friends are who responded when I needed help. I have no other family I would rely on.

Family. I have some good friends here. But my daughter wins that argument and its not even close.

This was easy for me because I think of all the people I love as family. My kiddo has more aunts and uncles than my parents birthed.

I figured it would be about 75-80% family. The question wasn't quite cut and dry as I thought it would be when asked.
