Does anybody know where I could find a copy of this book: Daddy and the Singles Club or name the author, publisher, or ISBN? Thanks.

Dear Ageless,
You might try Og's bookstore. You'll know you found the right one when the guy behind the counter is wearing a cake on his head.

Sorry

I have searched about 1500 UK book dealers without success. So it is probably a US title.

Try putting it in a search engine as "daddy and the singles club" - don't forget the quotation marks - and see what happens.

thanks, Og and Mathgirl, for responding. I've tried all kinds of way to search for this book on the web and have had no luck other than one link, where an erotica book author mentioned that she read this book when she was a young kid as well and has inspired her to write erotic novels. No leads.

Remembered book

I found that reference as well.

It may be that the author didn't remember the title correctly or invented the title to avoid complications about copyright with the real book.

Dean Koontz has done that. He refers to "The Book of Counted Sorrows" as a source of his quotations. It doesn't exist - unless he has written it now. That way he gets appropriate quotations without the need to get approval from the copyright owner.

We had an advertising campaign for Yellow Pages in the UK. An elderly man was searching for a copy of "Fly Fishing by J R Hartley" which was a title invented for the advert. The advertising campaign was so successful that a book had to be written because so many people wanted it.

I have problems with people's memories of book titles. Usually I can make a reasonable guess but I am still stumped by a middle aged man who wanted "A big red book" of children's stories that he had had as a child. That wasn't the title of the book. He couldn't remember the author, or any of the stories, he just remembered that the cover of the book was red and it was big. He hadn't seen it since he was six. So I didn't even know if the book was big, or just big to a six-year old's eyes. And he seriously expected me to find it on the internet.

I try to help my customers but some are ...

Dear Og,
I had a book with a yellow duckie on the cover when I was little. If you could find a copy for me, I'd be willing to pay ... oh, 25 cents if it was in mint condition with dust jacket.

Ps. My dad had a copy of "The Pearl" that he thought was hidden under his bed when I was a kid. Interesting reading for a twelve year old. I took it to Jr High one day and showed it to some of my friends. A nun confiscated it. It's probably the most worn book in the convent by now.

Dean Koontz also does this clever little thing where he'll quote authors that he created. Mr. Murder had an author, and so did Lightening, and I've found quotes from those characters in other books <grin> it's sort of cute.

A very familiar story. Are you the same friend who introduced me to "Daddy and the Singles Club"? =)
