My doctor's office is always telling me I need to take Vitamin D pills. My levels are fine, plus I've told them before I can't take them: I get severe leg muscle cramps from them.

I purchased a couple of year end anthologies - "The Year's Best Dark Fantasy and Horror 2013" and "The Year's Best Science Fiction and Fantasy 2013". I need to read more short stories and novellas, see what's out there that receives pay.

My level was extremely low and I was taking high levels of vitamin D. It runs in my family. I cramp horribly when I take them. My doctor said I could take a break lately but she has moved back to her home state and I need to find another one and be checked. Osteoporosis also runs in my family and spinal disease.

Those sound interesting. I used to love to read horror. Recently, it has been biographies and self-help books.

Hi Sweet Serene! :D:D I'm glad to hear that the hubs will be closer to home for a couple of weeks. Hugs!!

Hi daddy Rj! A picnic basket, blanket and books? I'm soooo there! :)

It would have to be sandwiches and salads. Anything else, especially fruit and fried chicken, would never leave the house, with my son and his girl friends around, eating all the good leftovers and fresh fruit.

I don't know whether to be happy or sad, we shall see.

I am so used to being single, that it sort of feels like an intrusion at this point.

I have other things that are making me happy at this moment though.

Just trying to take things a day at a time.

I'm good with a sandwich and a piece of fruit. This picnic would be more about getting out and away and reading ;)

I happen to be a fruit lover myself and eat a lot of it.

Big handful of blueberries in my cereal in the morning, strawberries too if I can catch them on sale and not too ripe.

Fruit salad with lunch, tangerines for snack, bananas for morning snack or peaches or pineapple:heart:

Apples too. :D

Yes, it's a mixed bag. It's really good for your sweetie girl. And it gives you a little bit of a break, hopefully.

Other things making you happy? I'm thrilled for you. You deserve happiness sweetie.

One day at a time, absolutely. We have just that.

My primary care physician is the one that tries to get me to take them. My endocrinologist has seen me out walking and told me to not take them in the summer, said if I average 30 minutes a day of sun I'll be fine.

My family's bad health history are diabetes (father's Mohawk family's curse), arthritis and cancer (my mother's Polish side). I suffer from two of the three, no cancer yet.

I grew up reading EVERYTHING, from my grandfather's and great-uncles' pulp fiction and mystery magazines and books to science fiction. I didn't start reading horror until I was in high school, and a teacher through a book at me as I left her class.

Oh, have you made protein smoothies for yourself? I've tried adding some kale to my strawberry shakes. You can't taste it but it packs in some calcium and antioxidants.

Mmmm, nectarines, cantaloupe, blueberry, raspberry, strawberry, kiwi, it's all yummy. :)

Yes, she loves her Daddy, definitely a Daddy's girl and he is a good Daddy.

Yes, a someone. I met him on here. He is absolutely dashing, but then he is an Englishman.

Thanks, it is nice to feel content again. :)

How are things for you? :rose:

I used to take the Progeny out a few times a week, when he was younger and I was the stay-at-home parent, to have a "picnic", which was me putting out a blanket on the ground, pulling out a book and we'd share food I picked up at the market on the way - a sandwich and a shit-ton of fresh fruit from the salad bar.

I'd read while he'd swing and swing for hours

If a watermelon comes into the house, it's gone as soon as I break it down  Sometimes they don't wait and pick up the fruit as soon as it falls off

Yay! Dashing? That is wonderful. I'm very happy for you.

Things are ok for me. The college starts next week and my kiddo goes back after Labor day. So, it's back to school preparations for us. We did junior high orientation this morning. Sigh....

That sounds like a nice time. Maybe your little would like to go to the park and be pushed on the swing?

Watermelon goes the same way around here.

I LOVE WATERMELON!

I could just dig my hands into it and eat it:D

I love nectarines too, I love how the perfect ones' juices just run down your face.

My little one ain't so young and little. He's 19 and caught in the grips of the interwebs. He's FINALLY made a decision on what to focus on at school - Computer Science, with Networking as the main study.

In October, I'll be apple picking, getting to an orchard. I'll make apple sauce, and this year I might be able to can some. That is, if the Progeny and his friends don't take it all, his friends love my version, high in cinnamon and use Splenda.

Oh, you have an orchard, lucky!

Soon it will be time to go to the apple farms and pick apples. :) One of them has the best apple fritters and frozen cider. :) They have a pumpkin patch and a maze.

I love fall!!!

There's an advantage to living in upstate NY: TONS of apple orchards!

I go to one that's owned by the same family since the 1800s.

Also why I love living in the Carolinas. :)

None of that in Florida.

Although I did go orange and grapefruit picking with my grandparents.

And fishing and crabbing, helping my grandpa make crab soup...I miss that.

And surfing. I used to surf as a teen whenever we were in a place where I could.

I am being so nostalgic today.

In 1982 and 1983, I played college soccer. Each year, we went to the Lake Placid area to play soccer matches. And always, we'd be there as the leaves were almost at peak color.

Yes, I recall the list. It sounds like an ambitious school year. And fun.

:rose::rose: If he puts a spring in your step, then the world is good. ;)

I meant your other little....LOL. He's a chip off the old block?? And maybe the target of one of your future rants against degreed computer people?

We had no apple picking last year due to the drought and freeze. This year should be a good year. Can't wait!!

I love the changing of the leaves.

The golds, and oranges and browns and reds.

If I was a season I would be fall. :D

I like to jump into piles of leaves which is bad bc I am not the one that rakes them.

And Halloween is coming,,,and T-day which means pie. :D

And Christmas, which is my favorite.

I love running in the fall too...the crisp cool air, running the hills here with the leaves changing and the autumn breeze blowing over the lakes where we live and I run. :)

Oh. She'll be in NYC, shopping with her sister. Both going to college Monday, Little One back for her last year in her Masters program, her sister her first semester.

I wonder if we'll have softball sized Cortlands again this season

Bring on the macintosh and honeycrisp! LOL.

Sorry she will be away from you. Having her sister there sounds good. Safety in numbers.

Fall is my favorite too! I love the leaves crunching and the cool evenings. Bon fires with family. Good times!
