I used to build boats in Maine in the mid-late 90s. Except for the 50% underemployment rate, there is almost nothing I dont like about coastal Maine.

I dont know if the kids are old enough to enjoy rocky shorelines, but they do like fall colors. And, my son loves trains. I do to!

Nite everybody Im going to face plant in a sec.

I lived in Maine.

Loved the snowy winters.

going on a short trip this fall with some friends. but other then that just working and doing my best to have some fun times.

Sounds great, I hope you have a wonderful time. :rose:

We plan on going several places but I am working them in as field trips too.

Like when we go to Charleston.

I dont have as much vacation time as i'd like or need. I truly love to travel.

You guys are making me tired reading schedules and hungry reading about food.
Oh and slightly envious about a scenic rail trip.

My feet are already up on the couch. Kids were terrors today (even the kids around us in other classes, everyone was off today). Tomorrow I don't think will be much better with the sports day at the park. Oh well, i'll enjoy it as much as I can anyway.

*Sighs* dating or at least trying to date is exhausting and a let down. I know why I avoided it so much in the past lol

YUP. My dad lasted about a year in 'retirement' as well. He retired at 54, spent the year working in his garden, weeding, sitting around drinking coffee and reading the paper, doing crosswords etc. He just couldn't waste any more of his life being in his mind, 'idle'.

He started his own business and made more $ than while working for others. I wish he had just spent it all enjoying himself. Maybe he was?

Retirement is a meaningless word to me. Now achieving independence and the freedoms that gives, is a different ballgame entirely.

Expanding vistas to explore and to share, in all that nature, science and the arts offer is timeless and so uniquely special.

HS strolls back in, calling good morning to TT and all the family of friends and visitors.
Independence is special he agrees, but his daily duties in their garden and the kitchen are pure pleasure:

Harvesting the first Cobra green beans, he turns on the sprinklers, then heads into the friendly and familiar kitchen.

Soon the aroma of mixed excellence from the coffee machine and his daily breakfast preparations fill the air and HS ambles out to his usual and secure seat near the chaise.
His own plate stuffed to the gills with thick cut bacon and scrambled eggs, he focuses one eye un the Telegraph and one on the door to the Great room.

Good Tuesday to all of the daddies and girls! It's hard not to miss Peaches, Cookie, daddy Stan, and all of the missing folks.

;)

Hi INL, Peaches, RJ, Hayley, RA, Curvy, Serene and anyone of you wonderful people I may have missed Hello to all the sweet little girls and Daddies!
I'm sorry that both Cookie and I have been MIA. Life has been very busy this summer! Know that we are both fine and our love is thriving. We miss you all very much!

Real life? What's that?

Don't you know you're supposed to check in here every day?

OMG I got that out before I started laughing LOL Hey, most of us understand RL takes priority over everything else. You two just be good to each other

Hello all :) I hope everyone is doing well.

I didn't know that Stan and Cookie were an item! I think that's great ... you both seem like nice people and I'm glad to hear that your love is throbbing ... errrrrr thriving.

About this retirement talk ... mine is a ways off, but I can hardly wait. Like the beautiful Serene ones' dad I am going to travel. I am selling everything, buying a motorhome, and then I will spend at least the next two years (and maybe forever) traveling around North America. Who is with me?

My father was forced to retire, due to health reasons, at 50. He had a heart attack while awaiting a value replacement surgery. He wanted to return after 6 weeks, but the bank told him no.

My mother worked almost until she had a stroke two weeks before she passed away.

My father-in-law was retired when the felt plant he was working at was purchased and the jobs moved overseas. He was lucky, it happened before most of the bubbles burst, and his company didn't raid the pension and investment plans. He was able to live comfortably until he was 88, having been retired for, shit, 35 years!!

It's great to see you. And I'm thrilled you both are doing well. Just know that neither of you are forgotten around here?

Is this aimed at me?

It's not ok to express missing someone on this thread?:confused:

No, not at you, no one specific in this thread, but I have fun across some people in my travels through the interwebs that have become angry at those of us that have not posted EVERY day, or haven't posted in weeks.

Glad to hear you and cookie are doing well and more in love.

INL *hugs*

Hi Serene, RJ and Rob

Having lead the way

HS strolls in, relaxed and smiling to himself, a couple of plastic bags hooked over one finger and the days papers tucked under his arm.

As usual at this time of the day, the Great room appears deserted, (Apart from TT) and HS calls out a cheery ''Good morning family and visitors all'', as he bags the table by the chaise with his papers, turns on the sprinklers in the flourishing garden and then heads for the kitchen.

Having lead the way, today is handover time he has decided. He will keep a small corner of the kitchen for the two one litre caffettiere he has brought in, one for French roast and one for his own brew (Breakfast bomb) from:

http://www.hasbean.co.uk/

HS will also continue to prepare a full breakfast tray for two, the caffettiere, mugs, muffins, bagels, preserve selection and the pivotal scrambled eggs.

Then before leaving the kitchen, having fired up the big communal percolator as well, for the last time, he quickly pens a handwritten note:

''I have tried by example, to set a standard here in the kitchen, which I will be thankful to continue to use for my own purposes. I will always be around, ready to help and advise those who follow me in the dark arts of culinary seduction, ''Go well as one of my alter egos says;)''. ''

With that HS focuses his attention on his own reallities and of one dear to him and strolls out to peruse the sports pages.
