Only if the tatt/piercing in question is one the seeker might regret later.

Therefore, yes, in all cases.

I wonder how many tattoos are done non-sober. Getting married, tattoo, piercing, driving - just examples of things it's a bad idea to do while drunk and/or high.

In over 11 years of piercing, I never knowingly pierced anyone who was under the influence of alcohol or narcotics.
Most piercers and tattoists won't.

KO who in the fuck makes that determination, some fucking government panel and does each and every tattoo have to be pre approved? Perhaps you would volunteer to make the determination or every single person who wanted a tat would come before you for your Solomon like judgment.

Absolutely YES, we absolutely need more government to tell us what is right to do with our bodies.

Stupid is as stupid thinks.

Wanna see my new tat? I put a dragon on my lizard!

ok, why's it such an extreme idea? you mostly have to pre-book a hairdresser's appointment, a waxing appointment, a dr's or dental appointment, a telecom/waterboard/amenities appointment (and most of those are a way longer wait than 24 hours), so why not a tattooist appt.? those who want it anyway will get it done, and those who were u.i.d or acting on an impulse they might regret may just decide against it. isn't that a win-win situation? if business owners are prepared to live by certain standards of operation then gov't intervention's not required - but maybe it is for those who fail to maintain such standards to protect the consumer.

Because it's simply none of the government's fucking business what I do to/with my skin.

All unavoidable market waiting. You either wait your turn or schedule an appt......that's not the same as gov coming in and making a mandatory 24hr waiting period.

Could you imagine having to wait 24hrs to get a hair cut under penalty of law??

so why not a tattooist appt.?

Why? You're the one supporting it...you need to sell it. What reason does anyone have to do this? What do they plan to accomplish with by doing so beyond running business out of DC?

those who want it anyway will get it done, and those who were u.i.d or acting on an impulse they might regret may just decide against it.

Why should me and my tattoo artist, be inconvenienced, and have our commerce infringed upon because a few people are indecisive and a few others are incapable of taking responsibility for their actions and owning their derp like fucking adults.

isn't that a win-win situation?

No...that's legislatively shitting on me and mine b/c a few idiots got some do gooder soccer moms all pissed the fuck off.

PROTECT THE CONSUMER FROM WHAT???? A stupid purchase?

Fuck, using that logic we need a 24 wait period on just about fucking everything don't we? Mandatory rubber helmets and diapers for ALL citizens.

I don't really care one way or the other. I think as someone mentioned a sobriety test makes more sense than a 24 hour waiting period. It's not like you can't stay drunk/high for 24 hours.

It makes a fair amount of sense to be honest. And there is no government panel here Scoundrel, just a waiting period.

I can see why people who don't like government don't want it doing things. I want an effective government however so I don't start off with government bad as the starting point of a conversation. Government is no more bad than a hammer or a knife. Good guys build houses with hammers and perform surgery with knives. Bad guys break windows with hammers and shank people with knives. Government is a tool and it should be used.

It seems to me that this is somewhere between difficult and impossible to enforce and will just serve as a way for cops to harass people they don't like. So it seems a bit pointless in that way. A waiting period never stopped anybody who wanted to do somethign from doing it so I don't buy the whole this will destroy freedom spiel.

As I say about a lot of issues though states rights are stupid. DC can pass a law outlawing Tattooes all together and it's citizens will drive a whooping fifteen minutes and be in multiple states. You at the least need to pass it as a regional law of some sort or else you're mostly wasting your time and energy.

Don't they have other more worrisome things to think about???

You mean like imposing a 24 hour waiting period after we vote to make sure it's the right decision? That way we don't wake up the next day and go, "OMG! WTF just happened?" :D
