Anyone any idea how a story posted for the Halloween Contest jumps 8168 hits overnight?

I've been monitoring voting/hits on all my stories, they average 100 hits per story per week. Bonking for Britain jumped overnight by 8168 - from 19k to 27k. Votes remained the same at 45.

I'm flattered that someone read this 8000 times - but couldn't they have voted just once.

Anyone else noticed anything similar?

Blimey, that is a little odd, to say the least. Perhaps somebody organised a mass read.

I've not noticed anything on my scores/hits, but I must admit, I don't check them as closely as that.

I haven't had a jump like that yet.

Once they're off the new list my stories collect about 100 hits a week and maybe a new vote once a week, if I'm lucky.

I am totally flappergrated, appled, and confoosled, I only read it 7999 times, it could be a site problem. I would say PM manu but 8000 views is a good thing.

Is is possible someone has linked to the story off-site? Doesn't that happen sometimes? Or have I misunderstood what people have said on the story-stealing threads?

That happens to me sometimes...the misunderstanding part. ;)

Luck to you,

Yui

I bet you got another 'bingo!' there, yui. I can't count them, you have so many. Good analytic skills.

I don’t know about anyone linking to neonlyte’s story, but about ten days ago my least read story A Surfeit of Bard went from 890-something, where it had languished for several weeks, and suddenly jumped to 1750ish overnight.

If somebody linked to my story, it was either a terrible mistake, or a cruel, cruel joke. Either way, after that one leap it has settled down to vegetate in the age of George II.

Do you think maybe some devilish English teacher had fiendishly assigned it to her classes as penance for criticizing having to read All Well That Ends Quick?

I will have to await next year to see if she does it again.

In any case, Surfeit still has not accumulated the 10 votes to count as an actual story, and I have grown weary of begging.

That will teach me to not only write a Non Erotic story, but also to include bits of Shakespeare. If I ever attempt anything like that again, I will have to remember to have MacBeth go down to banquet on Banco's ghost. during Act III.

 Thank you, cantdog! You're not pulling my leg by any chance are you? Because in truth, I'm not so much with the analytical...I'm mostly too loopy for logic. ;)
