So I have an odd problem. About a month ago, I noticed some zit-like bumps where my thigh meets my groin area, and I figured they were just zits and started treating them with pHisoderm body wash. Well they're still here, and last night I popped one, and what came out was like a cluster of like three giant blackheads. This seems weird to me. I think they might be spreading further down my leg, too. So I get online to look up pics of STDs and nothing that I can find matches this shit. Seeing as how its Friday, the doctor's office has closed for the weekend, and I'm scheduled to work at least 107 hours next week (stress free job, just a lot of hours) so I definately can't go and see the doc next week. My girlfriend and I haven't had sex with anyone since else since we were checked for every STD possible- and yes, I know for sure because we have an open relationship and we've talked about the fact that neither of us has taken advantage of it. Are there any doctors or ppl with similar problems in the house? Or does anyone know of another message board somewhere that I can post on to get better help? I don't want to wait almost 2 more weeks to clear this shit up! Help me!

With all due respect, even if you intend to get to the doctor when you get the chance, you probably shouldn't be using the advice on ANY message board as a substitute for medical attention.

Having said that, I'm not a doctor, so take what I say with a grain of salt. I think that acne or irritated ingrown hairs (particularly if you shave that area) could be a possibility.

I'll defer to Litsters who might actually have a clue, though. :)

I wholeheartedly agree with the fact that I shouldn't be on a message board to get medical advice, but seeing as how I can't get legit medical response without paying for a trip to the ER in the next week and a half, I figured I'd see if someone else has had the problems. And I had toyed with the idea that it was ingrown hairs but when I popped one, there was no puss, just 3 little piece of rice looking things (similar to what comes out of blackheads I guess), and no hair. Thanks for your suggestion, though.

Last night, I get home from work and go next door to party. Lo and behold, a nurse friend of mine is there. So I say, okay, I need to figure this out, she takes a look at some of the less revealing part of the bumps and starts laughing. It's irritation from shaving. Needless to say, I'm embarressed and I guess I'll have to break down and get some decent body shave cream/gel/whatever. Thanks for the ppl who suggested though.

Make sure your skin is very warm when you shave...take a bath or give it some good time in direct contact with the shower water or a hot washcloth. Apply shaving cream/gel/oil, and let it sit for a minute. You can also get some of those bath gloves (they're rough and sold in any mega store and most drugstores in the bath section) and gently exfoliate the area...it'll cut down on razor burn big time. Try using a new multi-blade razor, don't press too hard, and use as few strokes as possible. Shaving everyday helps too. When you're done, pat the area dry and apply some hydrocortisone cream. If the bumps are in an area that gets damp with sweat or has contact with other skin, you might try applying baby powder or cornstarch, though I've heard deoderant works for some people too (I'd go for a solid stick or cream instead of gel). Good luck!

Erika's advice is sound. Blackhead-type bumps are a common occurance from shaving, and are easily treated with the methods she mentioned. The key is to soften the hair as much as possible before you shave - if you shave while in the shower, make it the last thing you do so the water has time to soften the hair. When I shave my pubic region, I generally apply hair conditioner to it, and leave it on while I finish my shower (I've also disovered Coochy Cream, which works wonders as a conditioner, moisturizer, and shave product). It gives it plenty of time to soften up the hairs and moisturize the skin, which cuts down on razor burn and other side effects immensely. Exfoliating lightly prior to shaving can also help (keywords: lightly, and prior to shaving) by clearing away any dead skin or hairs that might lead to clogged pores. Moisturizing afterwards with a light body lotion also helps prevent irritation.

If these techniques don't help clear things up within a couple weeks (assuming you shave somewhat regularly), then you still want to make time to see your doctor or a dermatologist.
