How does it work in the bdsm world.

A long long time ago, some one told me I would enjoy it, but I was just a beginning text role player. So the thought went dormant.

Fast Foward

Sometime this year, MTV was talking about some red carpet event where one of the actresses had cupping marks on her back and still wore a backless dress. And the idea popped back in my head again and all the memories of the conversation came back to me.

I was looking around and could only find the medicinal relaxation reasons for it.

Does anyone have any experiences, or house hold fixes before a beginner like me goes out to buy an expensive cupping set.

Glass cups, sometimes combinded with a pressure point for accupressure. Skin must be oiled/creamed so allow the cups to slide over skin. A heat source is burned in the cup to create a vaccume type seal so when put to the skin it creates a relaxing massage pressurized sensation.

The only thing I could think of is doing it slightly improperly so that the suction mark remains on the body and its all pressure and pain. Can one adjust the pressure?

?

Cupping is fun

While I've never had a full cupping set applied to me (just a couple of experimental cups to see what it felt like), almost everyone I've cupped or seen cupped has basically had the same response - "Wow... that's .................... different." "Bad?" "No... Gooooooood. I just can't describe it." (One exception - a sub with very thin/tender skin couldn't take the amount of suction her Dom applied. When a more experienced cupper showed him how to reduce the suction, she was much happier. When her Dom was referred to mechanical suction cups, he was able to control the pressure consistently to a level with which she was comfortable. For this reason, if you have extremely sensitive skin, I personally would recommend you try the mechanical suction cups rather than the fire-created suction method, though I prefer the fire method because it's more fun and a little scarier.

Gwyneth Paltrow's cupping marks show on the first of the URLs listed below; each of the listed sites has some useful information or viewpoint(s), though some may seem to disagree on minor points.

(Sheesh - why doesn't Fetish Alliance have a better mode of linking to individual articles???)

Good luck. I've always enjoyed cupping (and other modes of fire play), and hope you will, too!

Well, finally after looking at some of those links I figured out what was meant by cupping....

Came as a real shock to me..coz it's actually still a valid rememdy used in Poland.....Had that technique applied to me by my grandma at least 15 times when younger.....and geez was always almost crying..all I know bout pressure and other stuff..if you lay down and your muscles are not fully relaxed....it hurts more..but guess whatever you like

Btw thank you for all those dirty thoughts I've now bout my grandma..

 You're quite welcome, lol... At least two of those sites, if I remember correctly, mentioned that cupping is based on old Chinese and other medical practices. So stop with the evil thoughts about grandma. Actually, one of my wives liked cupping when she was very tense or had a headache - she said it forced her to relax her muscles and apparently the drawing of blood to the cupped sites helped the headaches, too. Your problem might have been your youth and not really knowing what was happening, as well as the tendency of children to think of most medicinal practices as being painful. If one expects pain, one will often experience it, even if the situation is not inherently all that painful.

thank you much for the late night reading material :) I'll post later what I think about it.
What would you say would a few mechanical cups would cost. I'm not a fan of ebay - bc I'd be broke at the end of the day... but if someone is would you mind putting in a search for me? I'm a terrible impulse late night internet buyer and wouldn't trust myself. haha.

Master does fire cupping. I love the sensation of the skin sucking up into the cup, almost as much as the vaccum being released. And the marks are really cool too - and more easily explained to anyone who sees them as "Chinese accupressure" marks lol

ooo, no I'm all worried about burns and making the cup too hot. I think I'd start on a pump type set.
How long do you have to set the cup over the heat source for the fire cupping? Way less then a minute I'm guessing.

Ever done a shot of Sambucca with coffee beans?

Shot glass, about the same size as some cups, with the alcohol and the beans. You light off the alcohol, and wait for the beans to bubble before blowing out the flame. Wait 30 seconds and drain the shot without swallowing the beans.

thanks for the home grown, i like to buy local whenever I can!

No, can't say I have, but I get the point. Thankies much!
Stay away from Cement Mixers btw... alcohol congealing in mouth before it hits tummy... bad idea. ::nod:: blech. (shot of irish cream, then a bit of lime or lemon juice ... swish mouth/head around and you get the point)

Ok, that almost brought tears to my eyes.

And in the words of one of our favorite trolls ... "Seek help for your masochistic tendencies."

I found out about that drink not too long ago, someone told me it was awesome .. but NO thanks, I'm a texture person when I eat- and if something is off.. I'm not touching it.
Haven't had any flaming shots either come to think of it.

I like wax play and sensation play in general ... haven't played with/in fire, probably for good reason.
30 sec. approx heat source with the cups.

Are the cups tempered specially for these activities or will small beta fish bowls with the lips on them and other odds and ends from the house work ... anyone know ... ::eyes Catalina:: ?

Yikes, no, not 30 seconds ... the glass will get hot! More like 3-4 seconds. I use a cotton swab about 1" in diameter dipped in 70-80% isopropyl alcohol (90% and up can be too flammable, lol), dip it briefly inside the upside-down cup, then remove the swab and promptly place on the desired spot.

As for beta fish bowls, etc., I would not use any glass utensil less than 3/16" thick. They can develop a fair amount of vacuum, and I would be very leery of shattering glass on my pyl's body - yanno?

ah. gotcha.

and I understand about the shattering, which is why normal cups are out of the picture - but they make fish bowls pretty thick- was just looking for the cheaper home depot remedy before I buy myself a set or whatever.
I think if I do get started, it would have to be with a mechanical set - more control until one gets comfortable with the new medium ... I don't feel like getting burnt, having blisters and all that aftercare bc of it. Positive experience first - then venture on.
And if I were to start using the fire cups, I think I'd work with a tea light or a votive candle instead of the swab - just a little safer for our not so experienced hands... I don't need a fire, haha.

hm, I wonder what M thinks about this

:: eyes the lurker ::

Sir Winston thanks for the links. I just sent them to my PYL and asked if we can try.

If you do decide to use fire cups and are concerned about using an alcohol-dipped swab (on a wooden or wire handle), I've seen an odd-looking but extremely safe alternative used on a couple of occasions: a butane-fueled fireplace/barbecue grill lighter - the ones with the 5-6" nozzle that you can find at Wally World, Dom Depot and just about everywhere else. (Note: Buy several and have at least two handy when you start with the cupping set. There's very little more annoying than being in the middle of a session and not having fire to put to your cup!) :p

Chuckling ... i think she missed the part that said let it cool for 30 seconds when i described the Sambuuca shot ...

::giggle:: Dom Depot.. nice :)

I have an abundance of votive candles... and the wax is nice as well ... :D

oo. AngelicAssassin, I think i did.. oi, that could have sucked

The way Master was taught, you put just a dab of alcohol around the bottom of the cup, light it, then quickly place it against the skin. The cup doesn't have time to get hot and the flame goes out almost instantly due to lack of oxygen.

Now there is reason to take precautions, because the risk of serious burns is there. Which is why Master found someone to teach him :)

Volitile candle holders with a smooth lip, that way the suction to the skin isn't interupted by ridges - which would lead to oxygen getting inside and not dosing the flame ;)
