cum vs come

LOL, nice to know I am not the only one with such ancient memories and references to cum...I was beginning to feel isolated and aged. :D

*Another old timer raises her hand* :D I was going to quote your other post when I read Evil_Geoff's post.

I don't know when I first read ejaculation spelled, cum. Probably back in the day when I would sneak my dad's Penthouse letters and read them while my hand was down my virginal panties. When I got older and decided to write my own erotic stories I always spelled it cum because that is how I thought it was spelled. It wasn't until my Joe came into my life. He hates the misspelling and told me to stop doing it. Truthfully because it has been so ingrained into me I think cum still looks more correct for the activity we are talking about. However, I'm a good gurl so I'll behave my Daddy and spell come correctly. :p

I have no idea when I first saw it that way, but I too am horribly bugged by it.

I don't know why. I'm sure it's been around for ages. But... it just makes me think of people who wanted to make the word sound or look dirty or naughty, so they changed the spelling of it for that purpose alone.

To my eyes it *looks* like someone just couldn't be bothered. Like u, ur, ne1, sum1, 2moro, and so on and so forth. Even if it pre-dates all those words, that's all I can think of.

So, yeah, it bugs me too.

COME v. to climax

CUM n. fluid ejaculate, spooge

However, I do find that cumming as the gerund distinguishes this from arrival, and I use that.

Always always always. This is a huge pet peeve of mine. I patrol dirty grammar closely!
Ditto.

I own the erotic thesaurus The Bald Headed Hermit and the Artichoke by A. D. Peterkin and in there, under orgasm, it lists come; under ejaculate, it lists cum and come.

When writing, I tend to say cum as opposed to come to distinguish the act from arrival.

I use "cum" as a noun and "come" as a verb. It bugs me to see "cum" and its variants used as verbs for some reason, possibly because there's no acceptable sounding past tense, as Bunny said. People who try to be cutesy with sentences like "Why don't you cum over and show me?" are on par with the Capital/lowercase and textspeak users in my eyes.

There's a thread in How To right now on "3sums." :shudders:

I find it completely unnecessary to use spelling to differentiate between an arrival and a climax. If your story is so poorly written that your reader cannot tell that difference from context alone, no aberrant spelling will ever save your wretched writer's ass.

And SE, I long ago made a vow never to post in threads with bady misspelled titles (though I break this occasionally when I like the OP). I won't even open the one you cited.
