I will be damned if the cubs win a world series before the white sox do.

maybe for the 100th anniversary of the last time? that's what, 5 years?

Grace left as a free agent.

Nice av, Wax.

I actually think the White Sox have as good a chance of winning their division than the Cubs do theirs, but only because the Sox's only real competition in the AL Central is Minnesota.

Go Diamondbacks
Go Oakland! :) :) :) :)

(And if I have to root for a national league team, then GO GIANTS!!)

I'm SOOOOOOO excited it's baseball season at last!!!!

Lets go Cubbies!

I have been a Cubs fan for too many years to stop now. If I stopped pulling for them, I am sure they would finally win, and then I would feel like an asshole.

I am looking forward to watching the Cubs' pitching this year, but their offense will be brutal. Grudz at leadoff?

I think Gonzalez will have a good year hitting in front of Sosa, but then you have Alou (who is brittle) and Choi (asking a lot of a rookie?). The middle of the order does not inspire a lot of fear in opposing pitchers.

Wood, Clement, Prior, Estes, Zambrano... therein lies our salvation.

hey W&W, did you go to the KC/CO game?

No ma'am...but I do mean to make it out to the park sometime this summer. I hate the Astros, so I'll go root against the home team, but the field is a nice one.

I tried to get tickets for the sox/cubs games. I couldn't get through because the phone lines and internet were so busy. It sucks, buecause it would have been a great time. ANyone have a ticket?

They played at the Dell Diamond yesterday and Friday, actually. Not down at the Juice Box. It was a quick game though, I heard. CO creamed KC. Hubs and one of his best gfs went and had a blast. I don't think I'll be taking in any Astros games this season. I'm still in mourning over the domedogs...

Grudzielanek is an offensive improvement from Bobby Hill ('cause that boy ain't right ;) ), but he's a pretty lame choice for leadoff. But really, it's their only option, since Corey Patterson doesn't have the patience to bat leadoff, as shown last season.

They're putting Gonzalez in the 2-hole? Damn. I figured they'd leave Mark Bellhorn there. He has a better average and gets on base more. He hit 27 homers last year, and in front of Sammy, he'll see things to hit.

Alou is due for a good year if he stays healthy. I don't know why the Cubs insist on acquiring left fielders who can't stay off the DL: Oh Henry, Rondell White, Moises Alou . . .

I wish the Cubs had made a move for Jim Thome and traded away Alou, Karros, and even Hee Sop Choi. Sosa/Thome would be a fearsome lineup.

Indeed. And our bullpen stands to be much improved with Remlinger, Beck, and God willing, a renewed Kyle Farnsworth.

In '01, I got a ticket to a Cubs/Sox interleague matchup two hours before game time. Granted, it was Standing Room Only, but at Wrigley, it was only $8.

I meant the Diamond...the Express are the Astros AA team, so I have to root against them.

I'm thinking I might make it down to Houston to catch the Cubbies this year.

Even if only for one day, it's nice to kick the holy crap out of the Mets.

Indeed. That's a flavor to savor.

What were the arguments now?

"The Cubs have no offense." Well, 12 walks helped, but they pounded out 16 hits. Versus 27 outs and an error, 16 hits makes for a team batting average of .372.

"Mark Grudzielanek can't bat leadoff." Hell, I bought into this one. Here's Grudz's line: 3-3, 3 H, BB.

"Moises Alou can't protect Sammy Sosa." Moises' line: 2-3, 2B, 2 BB, 2 RBI, 2 R.

"Corey Patterson is an offensive disaster." How about this line?: 4-6, 2 HR, 7 RBI.

"The bullpen is a question mark." Bullpen's line: 4 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 7 K. Of course that was mostly Juan Cruz's doing, who saw seven batters, of which Mike Piazza got a gift infield single and the other six struck out.

Granted, it was just one game, but it was damned impressive.
