I know there are some impressively techie adepts here.

Can i have some help?

I need to know how to clear the mem in the following places:
1. My mouse. (MS wireless, just got it last month and, no, i don't know where the info on it is anymore.)

2. The mem that pops up in places like google where i put in "a" for example, going toward "apple"... and before i can type in "pple", [/i]"anal"[/i] (combined with a really mind-bending selection of other words) pops up, big as life.

I have computer savvy kids.
I want to be able to clean out my mem in those places, you know?

Help?

Here is what my husband told me to tell you.

If you are using MSN explorer you can go to Tools then Internet Options. You should clear your History and delete cookies.

Let us know if this works.

This is called "autocomplete" and can be turned off in the internet options dialogue. Check your IE help file for more details bcause it works slightly difeerent in each version of Windows. (Mine doesn't autofill google searches, for example.)

I'm not sure what "memory" your mouse has. There should be a help file for the mouse in the folder with the mouse utilities. Check your start menu -- possibly in the accesories subfolder under "Programs"

There should also be something in your control panel for your Mouse configuration -- probably with a help menu there as well.

PS: There is a setting in Internet Options to "clear history files when browser is closed" which may be all you need.

Kasha, thank you so much - and thanks to your husband, too. I so appreciate the kind impulses that led you to offer help to me in this.

Harold?
You are a marvelously knowledgable man.
You're underappreciated around here, too.
I thank you for this as well as the wonderfully complete extra stuff you gave me by pm.

You're a good egg, Harold.
Always have been.
Always will be.

The PM was drawn from the thought I gave to what my granddaughters might find if I let them use my computer. ;) -- It's pretty much why family login is included in windows.

For Windows Users. A small utility produced by the Microsoft PowerUsers Group called TweakUI (User Interface).
It contains a whole raft of user settings that would take hours of Registry Hacking to do otherwise. It's available from Microsoft.com just do a search. Its also on the Windows 98 A version CD . Just search your cd for TweakUi.*. Install it and configure it according to your needs. Contains handy stuff like Automatic Log-on at Boot, Clears all your recent historys, hides/shows certain folders, enables/disables your CD Auto play, adjust the speed of your start menu and many others.

Works on all versions of windows right up to XP.
To install, right click on "TweakUI.inf' and choose install.
A new icon will appear in the Control Panel. ENJOY IT, its a great tool.

It's also on the Win 98 SE CD. It's very useful, but also very easy to trash your system with if you're not careful. (some things, like Desktop themes, don't come back if you remove them from the Control Panel with TeakUI.)

The "Paranoia" tab does have a lot of useful stuff for hiding your tracks.

Oh, I just LOVE Tweak. It's one of my all time fvorite "toys" fo my pc. :)

Handy little thing, it is.

Also if a CD is not available or not currently in your budget, you can go to ZDnet.com or Cnet.com for the free download of Tweak.
