Cross of Jesus discovered, maybe.

i think sometimes people get so wrapped up in their research, that they fail to see where they may be completely off the mark.

I like the John Calvin quote in some reports, "if all the pieces that could be found were collected together, they would make a big ship-load."

I believe that he was misquoted, and it just sounded similar to "ship-load".

Looks like they found Jesus' skeleton right next to it, so it must be his cross.

I'm pretty sure nobody thought to save the cross of Jesus at the time. Besides, I believe that the Romans recycled their crosses.

A disciple may have thought to save it but I don't see how they could have. The crosses were large and heavy. Not something you could just wander off with and yes, I'm pretty sure they recycled them as much as possible although that's a guess. Don't think I've ever heard anything definitive on that.
Maybe pieces got saved. Maybe. I can see either of the Marys or a disciple taking a piece but sorta doubt they did.

I'm sure they recycled the upright-stake part of the cross, i.e., never dug it out of the ground once it was planted, just used it for the next crucifee. Don't know if they recycled the cross-piece, the patibulum (which would have been all that Jesus carried in his final walk).

In any case, if you find a 2,000-year-old piece of wood, and you can prove it's that old and prove it was part of an execution-cross once, still, how could you connect it to Jesus? It's not like he was the only person ever crucified during that period.

It is not impossible that they have located the Relic of the True Cross, such an artifact once existed and was sacred to most of Christianity. Whether it was the true cross, just a piece of driftwood or just a hunk of handy wood washed with some random criminal blood - it was enough of a relic to get carried away by the Persians in 614 after they conquered Jerusalem. It was supposedly recovered during the Crusade and returned to Rome (Constantinople) for safe keeping - but nobody has ever seen or heard of it since. I expect Indiana Jones to go looking in a movie sometime in the near future and to discover it is protected by Nazis and snakes.

I bought a piece of the true cross from a guy selling them on 14th and Independence and I know mine is real because it has a reddish black stain.

If you paypal $199.95 to me, I'll send you sliver of the true cross and you can be saved. (for $29.95 - I'll send a .jpeg)

If one of your loved ones was hanged by the state, would you want to keep the rope?

So the little piece of splinter I bought in Rome isn't what they said it was, damn them.

I have never understood the mind that made a thing such as a cross that was used to kill the "messiah" a holy thing. Matter of fact does not the ten commandment prohibit such a thing?

“You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. 5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, 6 but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.

What really pisses me off is that this God punishes the children all the way to the fourth generation because of the sins of the parent. This is hardly fair so he can suck it.

First of all you're comparing old and new testaments. Second of all, who said anything was fair?

A couple of years ago, I had a bite of what I can only assume was the very first batch of gefilte fish ever made.

You could literally taste the pain and suffering.

I really should have called a professor or something.

The OT has little to do with Christianity. Most of the Law of Moses doesn't apply.
If they were smart, they would have named it something else. Calling it "the Old Testament" doomed it to obsolescence from the start.

When did Jesus ever say the Ten Commandments were no longer valid?

Matthew 5:17
17"Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill. 18"For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass from the Law until all is accomplished.

Paul created most of what Christianity is today.

A bargain if you ask me - I'll give you an extra $10 if Elvis's face appears in the cracks in the wood on the reverse side.
