Critical Updates? Oh yeah!

Thankfully I have Windows 2000 and have never come across virii at all. Mostly because 2000 is rarely used OS like Mac and Linux.

Er.... nope. Windows 2000 is used often, as a server. And it's the same code base as the Windows 2000 Professional (which I am assuming you are running), and that will in almost every case get the same virii as WinXP. And Windows 2000 is less safe than WinXP and Windows 2003.

Sorry. Go carefully with that one, and if I were you, I'd run a virus checker frequently.

I do have a virus scanner and update often but have never recieved a virus. I know the servers use 2000 Pro but oddly enough any system that had 2000 that I know of wasn't hit.

Wit, come to think of it, I know of no one in town who has actually been git. Which is very odd. Maybe it never came here or to any of my contacts and never had to worry about it. Aw well, I digress.

In defense of Microsoft, I also heard they played a large part in tracking this person down.

OK, Bill, that's one for you. :D

I'm shocked! Shocked! :D

I know of several places that have been hit recently and that run Windows 2000. And yes, some of them were clients.

Keep that virus scanner up to date -- that's the best policy. Oh, and download the security updates! :D

Microsoft are going to cease support for Windows 2000 in the not too distant future, so at some point you will want to upgrade. But so long as you are running an up-to-date virus scanner, you should probably be okay.
