I plan on sending a package of goodies to a male friend in the Northern states. Can anyone help me with some creative suggestions? I've been a little under the weather and my brain isn't exactly functioning at full capacity for quality brainstorming. He's a manly thing so no fruity soaps or lotions...

Whatcha got for me?

What the hell is pemmican?

You don't have pemmican in Texas? I don't believe it. It's like Native American style beef jerky.

okay, as it is FUCKING COLD here, i would suggest thermal anything. a hat, gloves, a scarf, long underwear, warm socks. whatever. you can never have too much. unscented/flavored chaptstick and very plain moisturizer, if that wouldn't offend him, are cold weather necesities.

other good care package things that aren't girly: coffee/tea, chocolate/other sweets, books, movies, mixed tapes/cds, random magazine articles that he might like.

baking stuff is always good.

Chocolate. Photos. A story/poem. A home made CD.

edit - lol, and everything else SexieLexie said.

Ha! Sure it is! I think it's that little mysterious black speck on the bottom of her danish.

No pemmican...next?

Shit.

Sidenote for all interested: I ate the Danish.

Zatarain's Chicken Fry. ;)

I like homemade CD's as a gift. Songs that you put on because you know they like them. I did a couple of 80s compilations for TM's swap box and she loved them!

For food, git ta baking sweetcheeks. Actually, Cass gave me a fanfuckingtastic caramel recipe...for caramel candies, I mean. I wrapped them in waxed paper and they shipped well. Oh! And if you wanna give him a zing, I can give you my jalapeno nut brittle recipe. Yankees groove to the heat, babe. ;)

i miss trader joe's :(

I've got one next door. *gloats*

Their chocolate chip cookies are the best thing on earth because they are made with authentic lard. Good, clean, artery-clogging fun.

Well, I was going to suggest beef jerky, too. Didn't know to call it pemmican though.

I'd add dry soup mix- I like Lipton cup of soup, spring vegetables.

Gift certificate to online book store, unless you have a favorite book you want him to read or an area of knowledge you want him to pick up. Books weigh a lot to mail.

bitch.

i love their rice & seasoning mixes. and their cinnamon bread. and just about everything else :)

Knit him a dick-n-balls warmer. He'll need it up there in the fridgy-north. Neutrogena Swiss Formula Hand Cream is also indispensible for cold climes. It does not smell girly. A special mug and tea or coffee might also be nice.

These are all really great and thoughtful! Thank you so much for helping me out here. I just sneezed over 30 times in a five minute period and my brain is fried. I have a pile of tissues next to me threatening to overtake my desk if I don't find them a home in the wastebasket soon.

Anybody else?

Ooh! Ooh! How about a can of the Café du Monde coffee? I mean, yeah...it's N'awlins, but there just ain't a lot of good stuff where you are! LOL

Well, unless you send him a recipe for sweet tea. *grin*

And I'll chime in with a ringing endorsement for Burt's Bee's manly products. Seriously, they do guy-stuff, too. It's from NC, so that's sorta close...

I find mine at the local health food store darlin', but they may have an online link. Check google. If you find they're line for babies the talc/dusting powder smells divine. Not the normal babyish scent.

I've heard about Burt's Bees on this board many times - especially from you, Nora, and Rambling Rose. Where can you buy Burt's Bee's products. I want some for myself. :)

There's a little general store in Minnesota that has Burt's Bees stuff. Otherwise, I tend to pick it up in airports. Odd, but true.
