I'm still watching it, but needed a break. I think this is one of the most disturbing and depressing movies I've seen in years.

Thoughts from anyone who's seen it?

Agreed. I didn't care for it. But then I'm mostly fluffy bunnies and puppies.

Yeah me too. No one told me before I started that how horribly disturbing this movie is.
I like happy endings and denial much better.

Me, too. :( I need the illusion.

*burp*

Yeah!!!

I'm a bad movie, comedies, romantic comedies guy... if it MIGHT win an Oscar for Best Movie, I won't watch it.

*shiver*

Sincerely,
ElSol

ps. Unless it has a lot of nudity in it... obviously, that's different.

Shouldn't you be writing? I need a Vachss fix.

Now there's an idea that could cheer me up after that movie.

I live to cheer you up.

And to read Elsol's Vachss-ness.

I loved the concept of this movie. It just seemed like it could've been done better. I know it was partially the actors involved, but the directing lacked. The storyline though, wow.

I know, i'm a sick fucker. go read this.

but only read it if you want to be disturbed, further...

At first I thought you were talking about the David Cronenberg movie based on the J.G. Ballard book.

The I realised you were talking about the movie by the same name that came out earlier this year.

Haven't seen that one and don't intend too. I have enough trouble keeping the despair at bay.

ah, what a dumbass i am. i thought that was the movie in question, also.

and being reminded that it was a cronenburg film puzzles me as to why i didn't care for it much. i love cronenburg. hmm.

Denial -yeah - and the self-denigration.

Always has to end with the fluffy bunnies though. :catroar:

No, the cute and fuzzy bunnies of the world cannot win!

Sorry, was watching One Crazy Summer earlier today. That's a good movie... And there are bunnies.

Crash? Haven't seen it yet, but I may have to now. The way you guys are talking, it's starting to sound like a darker version of 21 Grams, which I will never watch again, since it sucked an' all.

You don't like it? It's depressing?

Wow. My parents thought it was really good. My mom raved that unlike other movies, it gives nuanced portraits of its characters, not going with the black and white "she did X so she's evil" of standard Hollywood garbage.

Hm. I need to check out people who I generally agree with about movies and see what they think of it.

Kass- it's a movie about racism. Every character in the movie has to deal with it in some manner; a few come out of the movie, maybe, a little bit better for things. A few come out worse. And during the process of the movie are some really really dark moments.
The scene with the little girl and the guy with the gun- I didn't like that so much.

I thought it was an amazing movie, very likely the best American movie I've seen this year - and I go to the movies every week.

Curiously, the opening line was so incredibly reminiscent of Cronenberg's Crash - which I enjoyed, but doesn't begin to do justice to Ballard's novel. The character who says that line, played by Don Cheadle, is called Graham, which is also what the G stands for in J.G. Ballard. I wonder if that was a little friendly nudge.

"It's the sense of touch. In any real city, you walk, you know? You brush past people, people bump into you. In LA, nobody touches you. We're always behind this metal and glass. I think we miss that touch so much, that we crash into each other, just so we can feel something."

I absolutely loved the movie. I watched it a few times and I think it's a great idea for a movie because all of those stereotypes occur everywhere all the time and we can't pretend it doesn't anymore. I loved it.

Um, I could just play this off like I actually knew what was going on last night ... but I was talking about the David Cronenberg movie, too. I don't care for many of his movies, but I especially didn't like "Dead Ringers." Gak! That movie was beyond disturbing. *shiver*

LOL :D

Well, it worked out the same for you, then. Personally, I love Cronenberg's movies. Crash was only OK; given the novel it was trying to adapt, it ought to have been a lot better.

Well, given your flair for fluff, I don't think you would have like the other one better.
