This is my own little mini-rant ...

3 of my coworkers on my shift, whom I have worked with pretty regularly the last few weeks, are/have been sick. I work in a hospital, so you would think that they would have more sense than to come in while sick, but no ... they did, and now I have whatever the shit that they had is. I'll spare you the details, but I will say that I feel like shit and my head feels like I need a presure-relief valve. I did work last night, feeling ... about like I do now, but unlike my coworkers, I wore a mask all night to try and cut back on the spread - and with how often I wash my hands anyway, I figure that's about the best I could do (I tried to get put on-call so that I wouldn't have to go in, but they had already put someone else oncall). Tonight, I'm on call, so I'm getting paid $2/hr to be sick ... better than nothing, right?

I'm just upset that they made me sick ... at least I tried to not pass it on, 2 of the 3 who I've been working with made no such attempt, and the 1 who did, only did the last time I worked with her, not the 3 or 4 before that when she was feeling lousy. bah, people suck

Gosh!

I hate it when co workers come in sick. Maybe they think they are demonstrating some incredible work ethic, but all they are doing is sharing the wealth...of germs.

Last month, two co workers came in not feeling well and I was the one who was down with the flu for a couple of days!

*hugs* to the Ladies.

Thanks Miss T ..

At this point I'm just hoping that I don't give it to Holly ... and that ghosst didn't manage to get it when he was home for a day last weekend.

I'm soo sorry, I know how that sucks.
I'm a Med Tech (read civie EMT+LPN that doesn't push meds except IV's and nebs) and I know what its like when idiots come in sick.
Specially if they KNOW its contageous.
Would rather work the shift by myself (with nurses) then work and get sick.

Hot showers with deep breathing will help clear things out.

Well, after being on-call last night (well, technically, I still am for 20 more minutes, but since they have to give me an hour before I have to be there, it would be a waste of time), I'm feeling a bit better ... but having the next 3 days off will help more ...

Hope you are feeling better soon...perhaps time for a boost of Vitamin C, Echinacea, and Garlic supplements if you aren't taking them already.

*mental note* I never got infected by anyone in the office

Its a difficult balance to strike. On the one hand you want your team to be there, on the other hand if they are going to infect the others...

my co-workers suck because the new hires commonly quit on very little notice, usually leaving someone (like me) to close by themselves, such as i did last night. (i work in a deli)

yeah... and they come to work sick too. (it is not uncommon for managers to try & bully us into coming into work anyway when we bother to call in sick)

Food handlers...sick? Yuck!

I get panic attacks. My trigger is a stuffed up nose. It is akin to claustrophobia. So, I take many precautions not to get sick, if at all possible.

I'm sure I sometimes look like a germophobe, and I guess sometimes I am. I go out of my way to open doors as little as possible. I'm aware of what can be on them. I use anti-germ hand wash often, during cold and flu season. I try not to touch my eyes or nose.

If I do get sick, I stay home and shove in all sorts of healthy stuff, to get over it as soon as possible. Actually, the flu is more welcome than the common cold, because a head cold can be a nightmare for me.

People who work while sick are ass holes, plain and simple. And, bosses who try and force someone to work while sick is only making the situation more difficult for all. Any flu or cold will infect all of his healthy workers, and they will take their turn being sick.

If someone is sick, at least let me know, so I can take proper precautions, if they won't. We all share this world, but your germs aren't in the bargain...OK?
