Have you ever heard Dolly Parton's "Hard Candy Christmas"? Good. Is it a christmas song, like my "opponent" says, or is it a song about a failed relationship, like I say? She says the feeling she has is like a hard candy christmas-in other words-a HUGE disappointment.

Thank you for your time and input.

I also think it is about a failed relationship, but the woman is saying that she will be able to go on. I always thought hard candy Christmas meant that you may not get much, but what you get is okay. Kind of along the lines of a little bit of something is better than nothing.

The song is from The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, and is sung by the ladies of the establishment as it is closing down and they are being forced to get other jobs elsewhere.

Yes, it is about a huge disappointment.

I to think its about a disappointment, and everyone is very sad about the closing.

I agree with CreamyLady on this one, but add one caviate, I think the song speaks of hope as well. The girls are all talking about what they are going to do now that they have to get other jobs. Yes they are sad about the Chicken Ranch closing but also some are excited by the possibilities of new things.

Final opinion, sad but with a glimmer of hope toward tomorrow, and all in all, a terrific song.

Re the caveat: I didn't get the sense of hope so much as endurance. No matter what happens, life goes on, and everyone just makes the best of it.

Not a bad song, but not one of her best.

True, but at least it wasn't one her worst! :) Makes ya wonder how some songs ever get published. Net necessarily her's, but anyone's, I've heard some lately that make we want to cringe in horror.

But then again, it could be that I am just incredibly jealous, 'cause I can't sing that way.

Naaahhh, there are some really bad songs out there!
