Is anyone else thinking about NaNo? It's getting closer and I am excited for it this year. Last year I participated but did not reach the 50K - so this year I am more determined to do so. I have an idea ready as well.

What about the rest of you?
Also - I would be interested to know what has come from last year's NaNo projects. Who has gone back and polished up their work or even tried to get it published?

For those of you unfamilair with NaNo - here is some info:

Yay! Well done, Dirtyjj, I was thinking about starting up a similar thread soon.

For those interested, here's a link to the NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) site: www.nanowrimo.org/

It is a great thing to be part of. I introduced it to many at the AH last year and about 25 participated, with around 17/18 completing the 50,000 words within the month of November.

Have a think about it over the next couple of months, and visit the site. Chris, the guy whose brainchild it was, and who runs it, is a great guy and has a lot of interesting stuff to say.

I have been planning on cheerleading a group from the AH agian this year. :)

Lou :rose:

P.S. My novel is finished - it came in at 85,000 words. I'm going through the second edit on it now. A couple have proofread it, and they sent me some wonderfully positive feedback. I'll be sending it out to agents as soon as I've finished the editing process.

Excellent, Lou! You continue to be inspiring. It was a great thing that you did by introducing the AH to NaNo last year.

It was my pleasure! Thank you all for joining me. It really wouldn't have been the same, had I not been part of a big group. The camaraderie was awesome and I was quite sad when November was over! Not long to go now for NaNoWriMo 2004, though! :D

I will no doubt attempt the torture again this year... whether I will try another silly story or not, is not yet clear... Probably cos I aint too good at sensible:D

I rather hope we can induce a few more to partake this time and that it all goes as well as last.

Never forget JJ, it's not the winning that counts, but the taking part... everyone was a winner last time, and all who bother to write more than a few pages next time will be also.

I must go now and prepare myself........ Now let's see.... Yes.... There was this pirate and a beautiful maiden from a coastal town..................;)

Do I dare?

Do I dare not?

I still haven't finished last year's even though I managed the 50K words comfortably enough. Thinks: I need discipline!

I'll probably sign up again this year. It was a blast last time, sharing the experience with so many Hangout Irregulars.

Alex

Last year's effort is posted here under the novel and novellas category. (A Queen's Enslavement). It did rather well in the ratings. I was quite surprised considering how quickly it was written (I did finish within the time limit) and because it only had minor editing done.

Groan!

I haven't edited last year's effort 'Flawed Red Silk'.

I daren't. The series attracted more red H's than my normal work. I completed and submitted all of it in 18 days.

There was something about writing at speed that worked.

Can I do it again? Even with Lou waving a whip?

Og

I'd love to have you all join me again. Crim, are you up for it again? So glad you will be Pops and Alex, and Og, yep, I'll be getting out my whip again.

You can all do it, I know you can. That goes for anyone else who wants to join in. Remember that countdown on 31st October? The excitement? The rush? Addictive, isn't it? And, Pops is right, everyone who takes part is a winner, whether you complete the 50,000 words or not.

I actually did this last year, but now woth you lot. It was both a failure and a success at the same time.

I reached about 20k words, and then my story was actually all done and told. So to go back and fill it out with more fluff narration or extra plot threads seemed like a bad joke to me.

Instead I converted it into a play script, and pitched it at my local venue. A very talented amateur group got interrested and I took the directing chair (due to budget restraints - couldn't affort a pro), and the play had it's opening night in late May.

So thank you, NaNo. I'm definitely up for another year. Wonder if I can get past 25k this time...

Whoop, Liar! That's awesome.

You should let Chris Baty know, he loves to hear about successes with NaNo stories - whether or not the 50k was reached.

It will be great if you do join in with us lot this year.

Yes, I plan on participating again. I got a glimmer of an idea this morning, so I plan on trying to get characters and plot set up in my mind (and hopefully in an excel file) before November so I will be ready to go at that point.

Very cool! I should start thinking about mine soon, too. I haven't got a clue yet. Come to think of it, last year I came up with my idea about three days before the start.

I haven't even posted chapter 7 of my story from last year, "Bimbo"...:(

Ah, but you were there, writing away throughout November and they are six or seven more chapters than you would've written otherwise. ;)

I might try but it won't be porn if I do.

That's very cool. Mine wasn't last year (it was more horror/sci-fi, with a strong hint of erotic horror). In fact most people who did it, even here on Lit, didn't do porn.

Lou

I'll try again this year. I just need to think fo something´that interests me to write about.

Count me in again this year - I got real sick shortly after last years failed attempt (nothong yo do with nano though) and I'm just starting to work with my stories again. But nothing I've done before has taught me more about getting my writing out (I have had a couple of poems published this year).

-(still living the parenthetical life)

Ffreak! It's good to see you, buddy!

Sorry to hear you've been sick. :rose:

Very happy to hear you'll be doing NaNo again this year! :D

Congrats on getting a couple of poems published. Go you!

Take care!

Definitely right pops.... I felt very happy to be a part of it last year and would probably not have even thought of starting a novel if it weren't for NaNo.

Very cool to see people that are going to do it again!

That's great Liar. It would be really interesting to see your work performed by actors - gives a whole new dimension to story writing.

I'd like to participate this year. Always meant to, but stuff kept getting in the way.
