If technology was around could you go on a deep space mission say a journey lasting 100 years, during that time you will be in an ageless sleep.

When you are woken trillions of miles away everyone you know, your other family members will all have lived their lives and be gone, could you get your head around that concept?

As much as I like science and technology, particularly the more science fictionary space exploration and colonization fantasy probably not. If such forms of travel ever arrive it's going to involve desperate people of near refugee status or forced immigration of criminals or undesirables. As a society we'll never be that far removed form thinning out the unwanted surplus when it becomes most necessary.

Definitely not...I'm in love with my life and wouldn't want to leave it despite all of the stresses and fears that appear overwhelming. I'm in love with the feeling of the silky fur of my little cat's warm body as she purrs when I bury my face in her belly...I'm in love with the acid green of new leaf buds on the hawthorn hedges in the early spring...I'm in love with looking up as I hear a skein of geese fly over my head chattering to each other as they fly over head or the rush of the sound of the wings of a murmuration of starlings as they bed down for the evening...I'm in love with the exact blue of his eyes, the timbre of his voice and that his accent gets stronger when he's mad, how wide his pupils become when he's aroused, how much we laugh and that we never seem to tire of each others company, how safe I feel in his arms and the things he does to make me feel special even when I'm difficult and demanding...I'd miss them too much

and I'm a coward, despite the fears I hold for the future near and far...the terror of what's going on around the world, the uncertainty, the cruelty, the selfishness, the insanity...Syria, Russia, Yemen, The US...I'd be too afraid of placing my life in the hands of others...I hate flying and being confined mainly because of those things...so no...I'll leave that to the braver and more adventurous...I'll just stay here and try to make the best of what's left...

I can't think of a logical reason to send 1 person trillions of miles away. The 100 years is just the time it takes to get there, it's not about being 100 years into the future. Otherwise just hibernate here.

New and exciting is fun when you have someone else to share it with, but to not have anyone around who can understand what you are feeling or going through doesn't seem like fun. Set aside you leaving would feel like dying to your family and friends, how do you deal with that grief and possible guilt?

What if you became patient 0 and brought some un-curable disease to the new world? You could look forward to being a test subject for the rest of your life.

What if no one speaks your language? What if the atmosphere is different? What if you forgot your phone charger?

No, too many unknowns, I wouldn't leave my family and wouldn't put them through that kind of grief.

Yes... they have reminded me...and thanks for that. Reflection is a useful tool to refocus on things we sometimes take for granted...

And yes...but not conflict...I'm just a mass of contradictions...but then isn't everyone?
