Around here the Reniassance season has started and halloween is fast aproaching. This is usually when I'm all a busle with orders and making costumes. Since I have lost one of my major contacts, I don't have any orders yet, but I am planing on setting up at a local place here in a week, just for the day to try and pick up some cash and hopefully some orders. Well of corse I'm also trying to build my portfolio, so I needed some modles and well my neice(16months) and nephew (6) were more than happy to help me out. And I think they do make a cute celtic pair. I was so excited I payed the extra for one hour photos. *giggles*

I love this season. :D

Got costumes for the kids last week!

*grins*

Good luck, I hope you make TONS of money and have fun!

Fury :rose:

I bought pointe shoes (ballet) the other day and I claimed they were for a costume. I've never had pointe training, and they wouldn't sell them to me just for fun, so I had to say they were for a costume. The cashier asked if it was for a Halloween costume, and I said no, they were for a show, but I guess I could go as a ballerina for Halloween if I can stay seated the whole time, LOL!

I once had a partner who loved this season, too. She had a thing for period costumes, especially involving characters taken from the pages of history or literature.

The year that she read Antonia Fraser's biography, Marie Antoinette (exonerating the queen of many of her alleged faults), my partner decided to rent an elaborate costume and attend a Halloween party as Marie. Her attire was a bit more formal than the outfit in rebecca's current av (minus the eyepatch, of course), but that was the general idea.

The logical choice would have been for me to dress as Louis XVI. However, though generally inclined to indulge her when it came to these parties, I refused to attend as a sexually dysfunctional, fiscally irresponsible, indecisive and ineffectual monarch destined to lose his head.

So I went as the Sun King instead.

The costume rental shop had clearly designed the outfit (wig & all) after this famous portrait of Louis XIV. Rarely have I had such a wonderful opportunity to show off my legs in the evening. ;)

Captain's wench, do you like to wear costumes too, or just make them?

I love playing dress up. :cathappy: It's part of the reason I choose to make them, and how I got started. I've always been fasinated with the Elizabethan period, my mom read me Shakespear as bed time stories as a little girl, so when I found out that there was a local ren fair I had to attend, and of course I had to dress for the occastion. ;) When i started looking around the fair at all the booths and the prices they were charging for these costumes that were not nearly as elaborate as mine I decided that I could make a career out of this love of mine. While it's not one that brings in much money at the moment, it does bring joy into my world. Especially when I make children's costumes. Children really take on the character when they are dressed up. I got a great shot of my nephew looking smug in his kilt, the sun beeming down on his face, my niece hid just a step beind him so you can see she's there but like he's protecting her from some great enemy or beast; a great addition to my portfolio that will be.

The only thing better than a man in tights is one in a kilt. ;) But I used to dress my ex up all the time as well. He was a great sport about it, tho now I wonder if maybe he just liked an excuse to dress in the tights. *giggles* I'll see if I can dig up some pics of those costumes.

This year, my mom was invited to a halloween/birthday party. The theme is pirates and she's letting me dress her up. A week after I agreed to make her costume she informed me that I've been invited to this party too. :nana: (it's a friend of a cousin of her's that's having the party and this cousin knows my love for these things). So I get to pull out the pirate skirt, and work on a proper shirt (as I've just been wearing a silk button up dress shirt tied over my corset (I know there's pics of that floating around this site ;)), which totally works, but these people I'm sure, have been informed of my little business and i do wish to impress.

in short, yes I love to dress up. :D

I've been invited to be the main dish in the buffet at a fetish ball in another month and a half. This is our first big event, and I really want to do it right. I'm thinking to do a sort of play on Alice in Wonderland, with the "eat me" and "drink me" sort of motif, but I'm having some trouble finding what I'm looking for online (mostly because I don't have much idea of what I want, and it's hard to tell that to google) and I don't know if I'm ready to go uber-crafty on my own.

I'm thinking, when food is piled upon me and then removed over the span of a few hours, how much do I really want to be wearing? But at the same time, I anticipate walking around afterwards and enjoying the rest of the festivities and want to be presentable. Possibly a tiny latex skirt and pasties? I found a thong that has a picture of sushi on it which is adorable but doesn't really match anything else. Should I go for liquid latex? Or will it contaminate the food?

ARG, I tell you! It's hard being a babe in a buffet! Please advise me.

*giggles*

I love the eat me drink me idea. For some reason I picture a tight white tank, maybe cut a bit so it falls just past your bust, and then the words written on it with t-shirt paint to look like frosting on a cake. but maybe a little blue pleated mini paired with it, and a hankerchief placed to make it look like an apron, to sort of mimic the blue dress and pinifor that alice wears. Either that or the latex skirt, and a mad hatter's cap may work well also.

That's my thoughts, in the moment. I may have more later as the posibilities sink in.

Quite honestly, I can not think of a better reason to choose a career. That's wonderful.

Damn straight. I look awesome in tights. ;) (I'm sure he did, too.)

Have a great time, and be sure to post pics on Rebecca's Slutbucket thread. :)

A question for anyone who would like to answer (including you, Wench). What's your favorite costume that you've ever worn?

My partner and I once hosted a costume party to raise money for a local charity. Under the circumstances, it seemed appropriate for me to dress up as Robin Hood for the event. So I did. (Luckily, the Kevin Costner film had already come out, making it okay for me to forego the goofy hat worn by Errol Flynn.)

This was, by far, the most comfortable costume I have ever worn. It also gave me a great excuse to hold an archery contest in the backyard (cash betting, all proceeds to charity). I wiped the floor with every one of my friends. :D

Of course, I had been practicing for weeks and wisely refrained from drinking before announcing the event..... But still, it was an extremely impressive manly display, and Maid Marian could hardly restrain herself. ;)

Kilts just happen to be my specialty (or at least it's what I'm asked to make the most anyway. *giggles*) And I've been known to trade services with friends (I do love my friends, quite a special think being flogged by a man in a kilt. ;)

Too good! He has much better legs than I do.

Oh my favorite.....probably the first one I ever made. Tho that may just be because I can actually fit in it again after 5 years of it hanging in my closet. Afraid the condition of the room detracts a lot from the pic but here it is. but then I do love my pirate wench. But I really do need a new top for it. Then there's my belly dancer, but I think there would have to be very special curcumstances for me to wear it out. and I think my absolute favorite, is one that I would never be seen in public in, but when I was at my friend's place one time, one of them decided to dress me in a sirik. Next thing i know I'm in cuffs, wrists and ankles, with a chain attached to my collar and and each cuff, meeting in the middle. I did rather enjoy the feel of it, and the noise it made as i paraded around the room. The males paid no attention to the little subbies playing dress up tho, or atleast they didn't let on that they were. ;)

I'd avoid the latex just in case someone has allergies.

As for the costume thing. I do Mideval/ren battle re-enactments. My style is either 15th century germanic or gypsy, depending on whether i'm going to court/battle/dinner, or to entertain and busk.

awww this is the time of year it sucks to be an aussie .. we don't celebrate it very much at all here. Now and again you will get the odd house with a few sparse decorations.

My mum however used to do Halloween *every* year when I was a little kid. She was one of the only ones in the whole nieghborhood and kids would come from a fair way to see the garden and what costume my Mum wore that year *grins* She made a *very* creepy witch complete with a signiture line which I *still* remember to this day, "OoooohhhhhH! Childdddrennnn for myyyy stewwwww! Come with meeeeee and take this candy so I can FATTEN YOU UP AND EAAAATTTT YOUUUUU!"

Unfortunately, kids decided it would be funny to throw a glass bottle at the solarheart one year and it smashed. Mum refused to do halloween ever again. Shame that .. she was so good at getting into the 'spirit' hehe.

This is my some of my fancier garb. I forgot to wear the hat though, and i have a deep blue wool cloak for cold nights as well.

The skirts are silk, the shirt is muslin and the boddice is brocaid, lacing up the back.

Quint's buffet has me really intriqued now.

The ideal, in my twisted little head anyway, would be a two costume approach. White lace sheer top and then a thin blue drape over the hips that flares out a bit, giving her a semi-alice look. After the duties as a buffet table are through then slipping into the blue and white crinoline and thigh high stockings etc.

I'm still not sure why Quint needs to wear anything more than an apple in her mouth! (With the possible addition of a dripping candelabra balanced on her somewhere?)

But perhaps I'm biased.

Yeah, for Halloween this year I'm going as a calaca, the skeletons you see in Day of the Dead celebrations. Wearing my black and silver mariachi traje, and painting my face like a skeleton. I'm angling to win the costume contest at work!

COincidences are so wild.

Where I work there are a few people walking through in work out gear. A lady came through the other day, in a sports bra covered by truly just a sheer white tank top. Completely see through just gave everything a white tint.

Now add a blue crepe half circle for the hips as a "skirt and voila.... alice themed table decoration.

I don't know what you see in them personally........ :rose:

I'm making A a genie costume, and B a princess costume. D's got superman jammies and he's gonna go in them. (He's only three - he doesn't care.)

I'm going as a stressed out Mom who curses whoever though an entire evening of giving children candy a good idea. Not to mention that Christmas is quickly approaching.

I'm wearing my black cat suit and going as...well...a CAT...i have kids i have to keep it clean...my oldest says he wants to be something bloody and scary (go figure) and my youngest wants to be Jack Sparrow off of The Pirates of the Carribean (he'll be such a cute pirate) :D

I figure that Cap'n Jack will be a popular one this year. My ex is comistioning me to do an elaborate vertion for him. I'm hoping that that will catch some eyes as well.

I was thinking of getting a latex gimpsuit painted up as a 3D modeling skeleton, but realised I would have ordered too late for it to happen. So instead, I'm going as a full hulla candykid - visor, bracelets past the elbow, flared jumpsuit that glows in black light, glitter make-up, pacifiers and whistles draped around the neck... the whole shebang.

*shyly peeks in* I've got pieces and parts of a costume of one of my furry characters I'll wear on halloween. Tail, horns, and claw-like attachments. I'd like to learn how to do full fursuits, though. Think it might be fun to learn. ^.^
