Just finished my newest cosplay costume, except for the hair. I was wondering if any other CD guys out there are good with wigs. If so, I need some extensive help. I've finished all the costumes for our next gamer-con (centering around Pokemon, since black & white) are really hot right now. I already had a James costume, but my boyfriend grabbed it and said it was his, because he wanted to be James, so I'm stuck with Jessie.

The little short skirt doesn't bother me, the top actually lends itself quite well to padding, I've got the boots, gloves and whatnot, but I'm having a lot of trouble even thinking of how to make the wig. I want it to look good, because most of the TR cosplayers totally phone it in. I want it to be show accurate, but Jess has crazy hair.

I'd really appreciate any help. Here's some pics... Like I said, fucking crazy hair.

Candi, hi, I am not sure whether you will like my suggestion, but this is how I would make it, from my experience in making costumes for drag shows etc.

Obviously main problem is its back heavy and shaped. SO dont even think of adapting a wig with a wire frame, it just wont stay on.

find your self the widest alice band you can, an inch and a half or more, sew a hair net to the alice band, working out where the aliceband is going to sit on your head.
get a block of polystyrene and cut the shape of the hair style, then scoop out the inside where its going to fit over your head, Glue the hairnet and aliceband attachment inside this hole,
IMPORTANT: only use PVA glue or a specialist polystyrene glue from a fabric shop, or the polystyrene will dissolve

When its dry and give it plenty of time , a day if you can to go solid.
then either paint the hair detail onto the polystyrene, or glue on lengths of feather boa to give the fluffy effect. IMHO try to glue lengths of hair on wont last or work as it will be too messy.

use your off cuts of polystyrene to test out first any glue or paints you are going to use to ensure they wont degrade the polystyrene shell.
and remeber to post a pic of the wig when its done.
Good luck, :rose:

See, I thought that about the wireframe to- and I'll have to wear it all day and perform in it- so yeah, there's no way in hell that it would stay on. I just gotta believe that there's some way to do it that will look like hair... Maybe even if I just did the polystyrene and then swept over it with a really long wig- with hair cement and shit... to get that shape, and then let it dry? Kinda like a fucked-up paper machie deal. I mean, she's supposed to be punk as hell anyway, so I bet it would be gobbed with cement.

I'll post a pic. ;)

I think this is gonna be fabulous cant wait for the pic.

I wanted to add, if you find you need to add a chin strap , use a strap of an invisible bra, the neutral kind,, they are reasonably comfortable as a chin strap and wont show up at a distance or in pictures, if you smudge the edges with face powder. sew it into the wig cap:rose:
