"Corpseman" Obama, a gaff...

A very long time ago during my 'rip and read' news casts on radio, I came across the word 'indict' in a local news item.

Well...I pronounced it just the way it looked, indickt...and all six telephone lines into the studio lit up.

"Hey dummy, it is pronounced, 'indite', go back to school! Was one of the kinder criticisms I received for my, 'gaffe'.

On the news tonight, reading from a teleprompter, Obama pronounced Corpsman as 'corpseman', when the 's' is silent as in Marine Corps.

Petty, I know, but indicative of the Harvard educated President who has remained cloistered in Ivy League isolation failing to connect with the real world.

I learned my lessons, as indict was not the only word I stumbled over in my early career, but will this President?

Curous people want to know...

Not a shining moment for the President and took a way from a nice tribute to one of the troops. He should read over the speech first and the teleprompter should be backup. Funny how it isn't on the news that much.

Listen for the number of wanna's gonna's coulda's, woulda's & shoulda's in any so called objective presentation in the English language...even the normally astute personnel of BBC News America have become lax in their pronunciation, but maybe they are just trying to speak American? (heh)

You've started something that I've reluctant to get involved with. Namely our President's speaking talents. Most of you are quite ready to cede to him that he is a fine, maybe great public speaker and that irrespective of your dislike of his politics and possibly him.

Simply put he is an excellant deliverer of a prepared speech so long as there are no mistakes on the teleprompter. When there are he has little choice but to read the mistakes. He has done this a number times and this may be another.

Let's begin with; What word did he mispronounce? Was what he saw on the teleprompter 'corpsman' or 'corpseman'.

Some of you may be muttering "oh boy here comes the obligatory defense of the Prez". To which I say bu.. sh...; nothing could farther from the truth.

The President is not nearly as intelligent as he is purported to be. He is no genius so to speak. His ability to speak extemporaneously is nil. Each time he is forced into speaking without notes, as it were, he becomes a man who'se eyes begin to look for a way out of the room and the sounds, "ah ... er ... I mean ... ah" become the dominant sounds. This is almost always followed by a non sequitor followed by "Next question !".

The President has gone so far as making sure that these moments don't happen by having few open press conferences.

His speeches are pretty to listen to if you like nice voices but he is orotund and you are listening to the style of the Honorable Rev.Jeremiah Wright replete with the false resonance and the scolding that your father may have given you when you were young.

Let's ramp it up a bit now. GW Bush was much better at extempore then the Right Reverand B Obama.

The Big O acts like he has a broomstick up his ass most of the time. He comes across as haughty and aloof. When he does lower his guard, he decends into the depths of 'um's', 'ah's', 'oh's' and 'y'know's' accompanied by pauses and visible irritation if he doesn't like the question.

The man's operating well above his pay grade which is becoming more obvious every day. He floated into the Oval Office on a billowing cloud of rhetoric and vague promises of 'change'. Now he's having to walk just as the rest of us lesser beings have to and he doesn't like it.

You're exaggerating quite a bit there.

I also remember gaffes made by The Big O during the 2008 campaign. They were largely unremarked, because he usually got a pass from the news media and on this forum.
