I've been thinking about this idea for some time. A group of professional's that steal secrets for either their own company, a country like China, or are hired guns.

I'm trying to visualize the characters as to how they look, how they operate, how information is passed back and forth.

Femme fatales, possibly? Spying for Israel on various Palestinian groups. Just one idea. Of course, they have to screw the enemy in the process. Some of the more militant Palestinian leaders tend to be narcissistic pricks, so it's not that difficult to do this and get key information. A Sephardic Jewish woman with enough training in Arabic could pass as a Palestinian, I would think.

There is a way to hide secret messages in photos or pictures. it is called Steganography.

Make one of the spies a woman amateur photographer with access. She gets all the encrypted info puts it in one of her photos and posts it on the net. The receiver copies the pic and using a known decode has the information.

They look just like anybody, normal folk who dress normally.

Usually they just get a job in the relevant target company, often a relatively low paid job.

Mostly in the ordinary post to an innocuous accommodation address* where someone collects it and then remails it to the people who need it.

*I don't know what this is called in the USA, but it works like this in the UK. A shop (usually a newsagent) takes in mail for people at a set weekly fee and they collect it whenever they wish. Thus the mail is going to a person at an address which has no connection with her/him. I have used it when I don't want callers knocking on my door (e.g. adverts for photographic models, or hitmen).

So I'd envision her as dressing, acting and comporting herself publicly to the opposite extreme, somewhat severely modest, and in line with that persona, she'd be faithfully married and a churchgoer, etc. But that's all a role, and it'd be totally, absolutely fake.

well, modest yes. but she also has to seduce. when a woman is looking good, that will turn a guy on. and if he accidentally sees some "skin" well, most men will start thinking with the wrong head...and that can lead to a weaken state of mind and mistakes happen, no?

My 2 cents: corporate espionage as a career: then I see a 30ish, extremely fit, attractive, but svelt, intelligent woman. Not bimbo-looking. Lean and mean-almost certainly a brunette. Dressed conservatively as a secretary-plant, she can blend in. In lingerie, she's smokin'. If married, probably not to a "straight" guy in the dark, unless you really want to put some men's panties in a twist. Maybe she's married to her partner in espionage? Maybe they both know the score (i.e., that they gotta do what they gotta do).
I, of course, see Angelina Jolie when I picture this type of character; but she's basically my perfect woman, so there you go.

Or, twist it even more, and have her THINK her husband is a straight-arrow and doesn't know about her "double-life," have her marry him under false pretenses-he's a big (but not too big) muckity-muck in said corporation, and she's on a long-term sting. But, surprise, surprise, she actually falls in love with him. She has to "do the deed", etc. You could develop her fearing his discovering not only her infidelities, but also the true nature of her 'employment.' Then, the twist is that he knew all along, and was actually behind the whole operation-he was her controller, unknown to her. Just a wild tangent. I'll read whatever you write.
