I'm in Nevada and no one batted an eye when the governor ordered schools to shut down and businesses to close. I didn't hear anyone question the governor's right to close an insurance agency, a fitness center, whatever.
Even churches.
The Las Vegas newspaper, the Review-Journal, has a reputation for sticking up for conservative values, even in the age of ownership by Sheldon Adelson. But not a peep.
Well, now I understand why businesses have licenses. If you open after Gov. Sisolak told you not to, you could lose that license.
But people are still free to shop (and hoard) at food stores. Now that more information is rolling in, I'm starting to come to the conclusion that in the U.S. this China virus is not going to be any deadlier than any other strain of flu, and that the malaria drug combo they talk about could be a life-saver for a lot of people who do get it.
I think business owners should be free to assess the information available to them and decide whether or not to open. There might be enough people who have drawn the conclusion that they can safely resume life as usual, and they should be free to choose to patronize that business rather than be restricted to certain specific businesses.
My opinion is probably clouded by the fact I live in an area with no known corona virus. What's your opinion?
