Is it okay if I show my characters using hard drugs (meth) in my stories? Or does the site have some rule against showing it?

I've never seen anything about drug use in the stories. In other words they can get high all they want, I mean there are plenty of drunk sex stories and it's not really all that different.

Well granted high on drugs is worse than drunk and probably ends up with a worse morning than waking up next to the missing link. Still it's not expressly forbidden and I don't really think it would be rejected.

Shouldn't be a problem. I've read several stories that featured hard core drug use. The only caveat is I have heard others suggest that using drugs to incapacitate someone and then perform sexual acts without their consent violates certain rules. I have withheld submitting one story until receiving clarification on that point.

I would like to know where these rules appear. My understanding was that only underage and bestiality were prohibited. So if you leave out the kiddies and the livestock, you're good to go (I thought).

I edited several stories for a friend some time ago. His characters were cokeheads, and they did well at Lit.

PMed Laurel on the issue and on rape after drug use. This was the reply.

Drug use in stories is fine. As for the other question, we generally do not accept submissions of nonconsensual sex in which the "victim" gets absolutely no sort of thrill or enjoyment from the acts, or is seriously physically harmed/abused. It would depend on how it was written, to be honest.

For whatever it's worth, my story "Hot Tub and Magic Mushrooms" had both marijuana and psilocybin use, and it made it through the vetting process. Of course, I don't consider them "hard" drugs, but I'd hate to have to draw the line between hard and soft.

As far as I care, any drug that a doctor won't legally prescribe is a hard drug. Anything else is a soft drug, because let's face it, you can get addicted to Tylenol (I was when I was younger.).

LaRascasse, thank you for posting that PM from Laurel. I wish all the "rules" could be collected in one place by way of a sticky or headnote, something like the "Notices to Mariners" that the Coast Guard puts out.

That way we could save a lot of time, and everyone who wishes to do so would be able to follow the rules, or, if they don't like the rules, not waste their time submitting unpublishable materials.

Well it helped me get past many a writer's block so I guess what's good enough for me is good enough for my characters.

I doubt it. I had a lot of cocaine usage in SWB and never had issues
