Study: Red states more charitable

By MACKENZIE WEINGER | 8/20/12 12:20 PM EDT

Red states give more money to charity than blue states, according to a new study on Monday.

The eight states with residents who gave the highest share of their income to charity supported Sen. John McCain in 2008, while the seven states with the least generous residents went for President Barack Obama, the Chronicle of Philanthropy found in its new survey of tax data from the IRS for 2008.

The eight states whose residents gave the highest share of their income — Utah, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina, Idaho, Arkansas and Georgia — all backed McCain in 2008. Utah leads charitable giving, with 10.6 percent of income given.

And the least generous states — Wisconsin, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Vermont, Maine and New Hampshire — were Obama supporters in the last presidential race. New Hampshire residents gave the least share of their income, the Chronicle stated, with 2.5 percent.

Duh, don't you know...the government is charity.

all we have to do is look at how little obama gave to charity. Why is that? Well, since liberals have no idea how to make money, they hord! they stash the cash they can steal from tax payers

So the red states, in general being in receipt of more federal monies than their citizens contribute, give more of your tax dollars away?

I think he's saying that since the government is charity, blue states are actually contributing more to charity than red states.

It's so hard to tell with fuckwaffle. He's been arguing lately that growth isn't growth unless it's over a certain percentage, known only to him.

And, the information is right there in front of you...it a share of INCOME, not received tax monies.

Yet someone's salary is usually paid by taxes, usually some liberal, bleeding heard who is all for saving the planet at the expense of the humans that life here and still doesn't contribute a dime to charity.

But hey, who am I to argue with the great liberal brains of the lit BB who believe every word out of the great rulers mouth?

As for growth, evidently you haven't...at all.

Some people donate from their larders and closets, some people volunteer. The only ones who have gained your attention are those who write out checks.

Yeah but you're counting conservatives' donations to their own Churches. Donation to promote one's own particular religion isn't the same as charity because it often does to pay for non-charitable things such as parking lots, lawn care, missionary work to spread the Religion in poor Guatamalan villages, etc.

Your study says the most charitable state by far is Utah... Where the masses of Mormons pay a tithe.

I thought I was at the dentist for a minute.

Once again you're given facts and turn into a little whining baby when you dislike them. Are you like this in real life or does the anonymity of the internet just make you a dick?

No I'm a woman...do you are the dick.

If you ever needed a perfect example of the RWCJ, ladies and gentlemen.

The study has a bigger issue if it's being used to for the comparison in this thread. Charitable donations will only be available for people who Itemized their tax return.

Nothing new there, to get the legal deductions you must itemize as always.

Correct. But the study won't include all charitable donations, only those who itemized. It's only partial data. All you can claim from the study would be just for people who itemize their tax return. Its not valid for anything else.

Itemize. ;)

For quite a few people, it's easier to take the standard deduction. They could be contributing significantly to charities for their income though. That data won't be in this study.
