We all seek it. We know it when it is present and miss it when it is not, yet it is elusive to define. It is one of those intangibles in life.

Some are better at making connections than others, but we all need them. Connections are not everlasting. They are fluid and change with time. Marriage is a perfect example. Most marriages start with a connection but often overtime the connection is lost. Connections take time and work to preserve.

All connections start with a conversation.

Conversations lead to connection. Connections lead to memories.

My hope is that this post finds a few like-minded individuals.

The joy of humanity

I have always enjoyed interacting with other human beings. I am not referring to the interaction that happens behind the facade that we all wear in most of our public discourse. It is those moments of vulnerability when we let our guard down and true meaningful connections are made. Those are what I seek. It’s a moment in time but we all can sense it when it happens. Yet in our world filled with technology we are slowly losing what it means to be human. It started with the dreaded phone tree and it may very well end with AI. Machines follow algorithms. They do not make exceptions. They lack nuance and empathy. It is precisely the messiness of human decision making that makes it so powerful. It is our whimsical and instinctual nature that brings joy and connection. We can choose. We can choose to be kind. Machines can not. At least not yet. My hope is that machines never gain the ability to choose. If they do it will be the beginning of the end for us.
