Everybody, everywhere for the last 15 years has equated every act of every government they disagree with, with fascism.
It was stale in 1994 when the republicans dropped that label on Clinton and it is just as stale in 2006 when used for Islamic extremists.

America has BEEN at war with Islam ever since the first World Trade Center bombings. The U.S. government just hasn't had the balls to admit it.

* If Mein Kampf wasn't such a big seller in the Muslim world, no one would make the equation
* It's possible that the praise lavished on Shicklgruber by A-list imams in the region (when they're not admonishing him for not finishing the Jews off) might mislead some of us
* Maybe if Ba'athism wasn't pan-Arab, kibbe-flavored Hitlerism, we would reach different conclusions.
But given that all of this goes on, and more, we shouldn't be too, too angry when the unsophisticated amongst us reach dangerous conclusions.

I don't think anybody is disagreeing with this. However we must defend ourselves against the extremist in whatever ways are necessary. We can't cry when the extremists stand next to the "moderates" in an attempt to weaken our resolve. The moderates have to stand up for themselves to some extent. They need to stop making excuses for their radical cousins and start denouncing them openly, loudly and often.
Osama Bin Ladin is not twisting the Koran, he doesn't have a unique interpretation. Declare him the enemy of Islam. Hell if you want to go on hating America fine, but be pissed at the guy who pulled the Tiger's tail cus we were happily sleeping leaving well enough alone.
