Even to the extent that "normal" represents some kind of collective consensus view that doesn't mean that most people are normal. At best it is more like an average of what may be widely divergent views. In practice it is just what the loudest voices say for as long as they can keep other voices suppressed. It wasn't so long ago that being gay wasn't considered normal. But what about sexual preference even adheres to the notion of being normal? Isn't it kind of like saying food preferences are normal or not - they are so personal that I don't even know how the word applies.
