Condoms?

Who the fuck uses a condom in stories? I mean, I'm all for safe sex, but come on people - it's a fucking story. That's about the safest sex there is if you know what I mean.

That's why I hate posting stories to Loving Wives...nobody reads Loving Wives but a bunch of fucking knowitall-knuckleheads.

In my best whining voice - "Why didn't they use condoms? Why was he black? He better watch out for his wife, she's a tramp."

Well actually I do, quite frequently. In fact I think the only time I haven't to date was when the couple were married and to each other no less. I'm not saying I always would, but I mainly write stories about people who would use a condom (romance and gay). It seems to be in character for them. I usually don't make a big deal of it, just say he reached for a condom and get on with the sex, but I do have one story where they're actually an integral part of the scene.

I've never had any reader ever mention it though, either pro or con, and as a reader I don't think I really notice too much myself so I guess I've never thought of it as a big issue.

The only time I noticed it and found it distracting is when I noticed one writer constantly and consistantly has the characters put condoms on their dildos and, on at least one occasion, wear rubber gloves.

The first couple of times, I found it a bit odd. In reading more stories by the same author, it really started to get on my nerves after I found myself trying to guess when the condom would be put on the dildo and how often the condom would be changed.

Once I'd reached that point, I just gave up reading that author.

If well written, its not distracting at all and can actually augment a story. It shows a bit of responsiblity that some of us fantasize about.

So do rabbits, sheep and hedgehogs.
