Since the con artist first started using taxpayer money to fly down to his club in Florida and play golf almost every weekend, Palm Beach County is considering a special tax to make up for the costs of keeping the con artist.
To date, the county has spent $2 million of its own money to keep the con artist locked away from the people. More than $60 thousand a day, and none of it being reimbursed.
This doesn't include the businesses which are hemorrhaging money because of the con artist's golf outings. Every time the con artist flies in on the taxpayer dime a local airport has to shut down for the entire time he's around. Marian Smith, who owns a flight school, says she has lost almost $100,000 because of the closures. A banner-towing company that operates from the airport says it has lost over $40,000 in contracts.
Too bad the con artist is so buy golfing or he'd have time to do real work and not destroy people's livelihood or send municipalities into debt. Then again, he's bragged about being the king of debt so none of this should be surprising. It's not his money after all.
