Theres a problem with the McAffee scan???

Let me edit the link out, then....

No, No! intrigued, no problem.

It's just that sometimes and with some computers and certain programs things don't jive right.

Some people would say the same thing about nortons anti-virus or any other.

If i wanted some real trouble i would take a six or seven year old computer, install Windows me, mcaffee, and IE6.0 along with ZoneAlarm. Then i would buy some pain reliever!

Oh, OK...thank you. I have no idea what I have to know if I'll jive right, so i will try it again tonight when I go to bed. Right now I want to try to save my pics and files just in case, and install the firewall. (Well, if it won't take all day to load it.)

What a mess.

Do you know what kind and how fast your processor is, how much Ram you have? and do you have win98 or win98se?

I have Windows 98 Escond Edition.

How do I find out the rest of what you asked?

right click on my computer, choose properties will get you windows version and ram. I'm trying to remember about processor speed as i use a program to tell me all of that.

I'll look in on this thread later, i have to leave for acouple of hours

Go to START>>>RUN and type DXDIAG hit OK.

That tells you the processor speed.

The chances are that this is the usual Win98 boot fuckup

Re-install Win98 on top of itself.

You won't lose dats
see... HannsyPOOOOpy~pant...

Umm...I am COMPLETELY confused. What is this?

I clicked on systems under "My computer" and saw this: 56 .0mb RAM...I don't know about the processor...?

A long time ago, freakygurl helped me with something else, and I remember her telling me that basically this computer needed to be trashed, that it didn't have much memory and couldn't hold much. I'm still going to load the virus scan tonight...maybe purchasing more memory is an option?

intrigued, i'm guessing that you barley have the basic RAM to run windows 98se. i'm going to assume that that your processor speed is around 166 Mhz.

You need to get rid of IE6.0., the basic free Zone-Alarm would be all i would try to run.

As for a anti-virus you might be better off with something that takes up less memory than Mcaffee or nortons anti-virus.

...such as? And what is Zone alarm...I thought that was either an anti virus or a firewall?:D
I am embarassing myself here...I'll PM you.

Intrigued

Remember that link I gave you awhile ago. http://www.pcpitstop.com ? Do you remember your log in name and password to it? Go there and run their antivirus scan and also run their tests.

They will tell you exactly what your processor speed is and the problems that need to be fixed.

Thank you...I thought about that earlier, but didn't realize it had the scan as well.
I appreciate your help, again.:)

I would like to thank everyone

who stopped in to contribute. I was surprised at the amount of people who would take time to share an idea, and give out some very valuable help.

intrigued is obviously using her computer again, and it is due to the contributiuons made in this thread.

Thank you all

Freaky, I'm about to start the scan, do I need to close out other windows, such as Lit?

Yes, I thank each of you, your help is very appreciated.

Keep your fingers crossed Trail, this computer is making horrible noises.
I'm about to scan it, so I am closing out Lit for now...

Here are my results from the test it ran, freaky. On the quick scan, there were no viruses detected.

(Oh, and a new computer is still not an option.)

Overall: While still useful for basic e-mail, and web browsing, this system lacks processing power. If you are not satisfied with its performance after performing our tune-ups, buying a new computer would usually be more cost-effective than investing in upgrades for this one.

Customized Tune-up Tips

Here is our customized advice based on the test analysis. Tips are listed in order of importance; red and yellow indicate issues you should fix immediately and blue is general advice. Click on a tip to find out what it means and what to do.

• Install more memory
• Unusually low performance (Drive C)
• Check IE Restricted Sites zone
• Consider a new system
• Adjust Internet settings
• Remove Spyware running on your PC
• Internet Explorer cache overflow
• Defragment files (Drive C)
• Scan for errors (Drive C)
• Clean up disk space (Drive C)
• Create a volume label (Drive C)

Configuration Summary: Our analysis was based on the data collected from this computer. A summary of the data collected is shown below. Click on any of the subsystem names or flags in the table below to see more information, or use the detailed summary to see all the data on one page. The test history page has a summary of previous tests for this configuration. See how your system compares to others we've tested.

Subsystem Description Performance Configuration
System AMD K6, 266MHz
Memory 64MB RAM
Disk Drive C
Video SiS 530
Internet MSIE 6.0
Windows Windows 98 SE
Security
Compare

Where they show the little flags that rate all the above, it said I have a serious problem with Drive C.

I'm off to defragment. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Ugh.

send me your log in info for pcpitstop please.. I'll take a look at what has red flags

It recognized me from the last visit, so I didn't have to log in.

I did a couple of their auto fixes, retested, and it improved some, but I still had a red flag on C drive, and memory, and several other things that concern me. (I didn't post the detailed results above, I couldn't find them at that time.)

I'll PM you what I remember of my log in....
