Background: I've created a shortcut on my Desktop of a web page in IE. To do this, in IE i went to > File > Send > Shortcut to Destop. Presto, the shortcut appeared on my Destop.

Problem: I double-click on the Desktop shortcut and i get the following error message:

Program Not Found

This program is needed for opening files of type 'URL: HyperText Transfer Protocol'.

Location of netscape.exe:

Question: what the fick gives? I un-installed Netscape from my machine weeks ago!

Can you help? Thanks.

Your .htm and .html file associations apparently stayed with netscape. You can view these by going to tools-folder options-file types in Windows Explorer. Reinstalling IE would probably be the easiest way to re-associate all the applicable files.

Just open up the control panel, select internet properties and check the box "Internet explorer should always check if it's the default"

Y'know, if I never offered advice, I think I'd never learn the easier ways to do things.

I benefit the same way. I try to give advice that I know, and end up learning a better way to do it.

Hey, why not? I give up being "the expert" now for a little more expertise the rest of my life. Thanks, by the way, shamelessflirtycomputersmarty

If your way works you don't need to learn the easier way. This just happens to be what I do for a living ;)

Another way to fix the file associations would be to rightclick on the file (if it were say a jpg) and select "open with" and before clicking on enter, select always use this program.

That wouldn't work with IE though (and I think the way I mentioned was easier). But it's all relative and my geekitude is showing and frankly I don't believe anyone but Islanman finds it attractive so I'll shut up and do the football teams homework.

Don't kid yourself. I find you deliciously dreamy. Share a cab with me, please?

I haven't even shared a woman with anyone, cabs are harder to get in Manhatten!

Strange. I seem to remember you in the back of a cab..............

can a geek hit quote instead of edit and still be considered a geek?

I do it for a living too and you out-geeked as well as out-amused me. You still win
:D
